    The TV show and Movie Thread

    So, I thought it would be cool to share the music related (or not) TV shows and movies we're watching...

    Last movies I saw were Not Fade away, the story of a 60s band:

    and Jersey boys:

    And about TV shows, I was finishing Justified and just picked up Fear the Walking Dead, a prequel of AMC's The Walking Dead:

    Just finished binging on the first two seasons of Bojack Horseman, animated series with Will Arnett (brilliant), Amy Sedaris, Lisa Kudrow, and Aaron Paul. The writing is brilliant.

    I'm watching F1 qualifying at Suzuka and the moment though I don't know if that counts as a "show". I don't really have a show that I watch regularly and haven't been to a movie in years.

    Watching Rick & Morty and South Park as well as that new series of Red Dwarf;
    Also this new show from the History Channel called Ozzy and Jack's World Detour starring Jack and his father Ozzy Osbourne.

    Movies... Saw 2 movies at the cinema/theater this year so far; Ghostbusters (2016) & Sausage Party (2016).
    Only bothered to see those 2 (so far); glad I did though. Since Bill & Ted 3 never happened.

    Started in the UK 18th September 2016, I've seen 1 episode on The History Channel and another episode streamed on the internet.
    This show premiered in America July 2016.

    Another great one I just saw:

    Coming back home from Vietnam, in the late 70s, two soldiers, struggling to find jobs and getting back to normal life, are approached by the mysterious 'Broker' with an interesting job offer, he needs hitmen.

    Here's a trailer

    I've seen every episode of Ozzy & Jack's World Detour online now, as well one video I found on YouTube talking about it;

    I've seen this show so much I was beginning to rewatch episodes;
    I've even seen some extra/bonus footage from this show online too; I can safely say that I have seen this show now...

    I've also caught up with the new episodes of The Simpsons this week; I think they're funnier now more than ever.

    Re: The TV show and Movie Thread

    Just saw "The other one: the long strange trip of Bob Weir" again on Netflix.

    I think everyone here knows I'm a Dead fan to the bone, and Bob's rhythm playing has always been a great inspiration for me, just as much as Jerry's leads (maybe because I am mostly a rhythm player myself).

    The film is particularly cool because Bob shows many of his guitars, his house and takes you to places that have been important to him and the Dead crew.

    I've been watching Forged in Fire, Graveyard Cars, and Ancient Aliens. I also do my best to watch Jeopardy everyday. Haven't been watching many music shows lately.

    Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2.

    They way music is the glue for the movies and plays such an important role. The soundtracks kick butt.

    +1. I just wish the last one didn't spend SO much time on "Brandy" as I thought that song was pure schmaltz back in the day...

    Brandy is one of those songs I didn't appreciate back in the day. But now when I listen to oldies stations, that's one of the songs I listen to when it comes on. It's a good song that you can sing along to, a type of songwriting to which I aspire.

    Amazon has produced some great movies and television. I really enjoyed Goliath and Bosch. The good thing is you can binge-watch the whole thing in one sitting - the bad thing is that they do 10 shows per season and when you binge watch you have to wait even longer for the next season to arrive!

    I've been binging on The Leftovers. Fantastic series. Otherwise, I'm into the current seasons of Better Call Saul and Fargo. Fargo is one of those shows that's losing viewership, but I think this third season is the best of all. It's dark, suspenseful, and funny as hell.

    TPB is great.

    Couple of other good shows out there:
    • Silicon Valley
    • Archer
    • Parts Unknown (Anthony Bourdain)
    • Rick and Morty
    • Steven Universe (best show on TV)

    Just found out that they've made a spin off TV series based on The Karate Kid movie.

    At first I didn't think much of it, but it is actually VERY cool. It features both actors Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, and Johnny Lawrence (the villain karate fighter) is actually the main guy now, 30 years later.

    It's called Cobra Kai and airs on Youtube Red

    One of my former squad members in Vietnam sent me a book titled “Anatomy of A Division - the First Cav In Vietnam” that I’ve been reading lately. So, I had to break out my dvd of We Were Soldiers Once for a viewing last night. We were back at Chu Pong about ten months after that battle in the Is Drang.

    @Laker, have you seen this documentary?

    My old man saw it on Netflix (he is deeply into Vietnam war) and said he liked it a lot.

    I'd like to hear your opinion.

    I enjoyed it old mate.

    I grew up through this time and the program was an eye-opener at times.

    I won't give away the ending.

    I watched the first two-and-a-half episodes last night (it was a slow night, what with the fireworks and all). The sheer amount of footage is impressive. The history of Vietnam from 1857 up to WWII was fascinating. I didn't quite get why Burns felt it necessary to intersperse some footage from the 1960s during the early segments.

    A number of friends of mine who served in Vietnam either refuse to watch, or deride the program due to Burns's liberal leaning, and narrator Peter Coyote seems to take the liberal line that Kennedy and Johnson were anguished over American involvement, but Nixon (who ran for president on the platform that he was going to get the U.S. out of the conflict) was just evil and corrupt.

    I'm not so far in as to where the American public became involved, as Kennedy and Johnson kept trying to keep the depth of American participation secret so as to not influence elections.

    I dont think any modern president up until recently who ran for office was so simple a person they would not have been conflicted about our involvement in Vietnam.

    But, truthfully, it is impossible to know how Kennedy really felt as he died before he could ever be retrospective about the situation.

    Also, I fear we have lost our way if saying those things about Nixon is at all partisan. At least in my family (which is quite Republican), the man is reviled by those old enough to have lived through his presidency.

    On Netflix:

    I still hadn't seen this one, though I guess we're all kinda saturated with Beatles' stuff, but it's definitely worth a watch.

    I had never seen any footage of them playing live with such image quality and detail richness.

    Sérgio, I spent my early adult life in country. Three tours. I will never go to the memorial wall. I choose not to watch films of Vietnam. I sometimes still wake up in the middle of the night with the sounds of it ringing in my ears.... But my neighbor says its just my acute tinnitus and nothing more.
    I forgot what I was going to say...
