    Dressing frets: Advice needed

    I bought a Takamine G-230 Acoustic at a pawnshop for $100.
It's a great sounding cheaper guitar, but has a high 4th fret that causes some buzz in that area. I'd like to try to fix it myself. Please give any advice you can on tools needed, and what to do. Thanks.

A high fret usually has come out of the fret slot. It may even be loose. Can you see it move when you press it with a hard object?

First you must stabalize the fret. Wax off the board and apply water thin superglue under the fret. Then clamp the fret down with a radius caul that matched the radius of the other frets.

Two great resources that describe this are Dan Erlewine's "Guitar Player Repair Guide" and Stew-mac video "Fret Basics". The book is $25 and the DVD/Video is $50. Both of them will pay for themselves on the first repair job you do yourself!!
