    Forum and Thread Status Icons

    Good morning folks,

You may have noticed some new graphics. If you haven't, please clear your cache, close and restart your browser, then reload the page.

I chose to do this for a few reasons. The number one reason was that the site was using only 2 icons for both Forum Status and Thread Status. These two icons only alerted the user of "new posts" and "posts that you've posted to". Every other icon, of which there are roughly 20, were either blank or stock vBulletin ver. 3 icons.

The second reason is that the new Status Icons are very typical of almost all forums these days, and will certainly be a part of the upgraded forum when it happens. I also think that it will be easier for members to get comfortable with a few things at a time, rather than a massive change all at once.

There is an Icon Legend at the bottom of the main page and also at the bottom of each category page...

    Thanks, Kenny

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you haven’t already done so, please stow your carry-on luggage underneath the seat in front of you or in an overhead bin. Please take your seat and fasten your seat belt. And also make sure your seat back and folding trays are in their full upright position.

TFF Airlines flight 101 is preparing for takeoff!

I do not care for the new icons, nor will I ever.

    Simmer down brother...

Custom icons will come in the near future, but they take many hours to create, one icon at a time... Just bear with me... Okay?

OK, I must be doing something wrong as it all looks the same to me. And further, I have no idea what clearing a cache means and that other computer stuff... And I'm not gonna touch this thing either. Last time I did something like change stuff in this thing it nosedived and went to chit! Forget-about-it, as my old transplanted NYPD buddy used to say.
It's 84°F and the sun is out! I'm gonna go play with my guns and forget about it.
I forgot what I was going to say...

The pilot-lamp jewels were an integral part of this forum's vibe.

It wasn't "broke" -- why the need to "fix" it?

Because they'll be going away in the software upgrade. I can recreate some new ones that will work with the new file extension, but it'll take some time. If that's what you'd like to see, it's certainly possible.

I did say that it would take some time, right?

    Let's all be patient, folks...

Kenny and Mike are only doing what we all want: keeping the forum alive and functional.

If that involves minor changes, why not?

I don't really care if the platform and layout change. What matters is what we post here!

Let's stick together, this place is very good with you all taking part!

BTW we should try to post more often, to keep things moving...

Just curious, Kenny, what file format do the pilot-light jewel icons need to be for the new software?

    Looks great, Kenny. Thank you!

And to those who don't like any changes -- lighten up, okay? We're just trying to make TFF viable for the future!

Yes, Kenny. Thanks. Part of what I do for work is build touch panel GUIs and write the control code behind it. This stuff isn't easy and sometimes what looks like the simplest graphic can be a big pain in the kiester.

You're the man. Okay, maybe Mike is the man and you're the Man Number Two. Or, he's Batman and you're Robin. Or, maybe you're Alfred...whatever...now I've confused myself!

Let's be honest... Without you and a few other people, there is no TFF... And that's a fact...

    Thank you, my friend...

So if I don't like something you like that's bad? You know I see a lot of this narrow minded approach on this site a lot. Whether it be a music genera, old tired ass bands, the color of a guitar or just a general difference of opinion...

Pretty sad to think that we all should get in line and jump off the cliff just like a bunch of lemming's...

I'm please to see this site stay alive too, I do appreciate the hard work people are putting into the site but that does mean I have to like all the changes...

    good grief
It's not that I like it or don't like it. It's just a bump in the road as we try to update the forum.

Re: Forum and Thread Status Icons

I'm not particularly fond of them myself... But...

Here's the cold hard reality of the situation... For whatever reason, which is certainly none of my business, the site was neglected for many years. The software is so outdated that certain functions would no longer run with any reliability. The back end of this site IS "broken", to use the term that phantomman used earlier... The email communication between the site and prospective users, was all but useless... There are numerous instances of outdated custom code and scripts that need to be corrected... Even if all of that was straightened out, the upgrade to VBulletin 4 is still a freakin' nightmare...

Now... I'm not even trying to suggest that any of this is, or even should be of concern to any member... I'm truly trying to make this process as painless for everyone as I possibly can...

Having said that, allow me to also say, as I've stated a few times already... As soon as we get the site upgraded and stable, we can certainly create some custom graphics and do some other things that will make this place our very own, comfortable home.

And while I'm at it, let me just remind everyone that Robert (71818, cogs) is, and has been, Moderating this site out of the kindness of his heart, and I would appreciate it if everyone would take that into consideration, and treat him accordingly...

    Thanks, Kenny

    I appreciate your position.

As for Robert, you are correct. He's a true gentleman with a heart of gold and I render a hand salute whenever I bother him with my pesky e-mails. He's good people.

So, who else has noticed the new favicon?

That's the little logo on your browser tab. Kenny added a little "FF" favicon.

Tried to slip that one under the radar, did ya?!

    Neat!

Ya'll are a clever bunch of little rascals! Guess this stuff is kinda like keeping an old car running with as few replacement parts possible. Not all new parts fit just right and it may take a bit of filing here and pounding there to make 'em work. Might not look just like the original but the old car will still run and get you to where you wanna go.

So with that simplistic old half-breed mentality employed, I believe that ya'll are keeping this old site running and fitting the new parts as best you can. Some parts might look different but it's runnin' just the same. Thanks guys. And this is coming from a guy that resists change worse than a cat being forced into a bathtub!
