    The Vintage Fender Ads Topic

So, I really dig all things vintage, so I thought I'd create a thread for sharing samples of Fender advertising from the good old days...

    Beginning right now:

And a personal favorite one, from 1987:

    Pure love, gentlemen.

Porsches, E Types and Triumphs. Wow. Get those screwy guitars out of the way and let me see those cars!

A very close friend's father, Jim Cruickshank, was the VP of communications at Fender and was involved in some pretty cool stuff.

    Here's an interview with him-

Jim also worked for Gibson, Thomas Organ and Leslie.

My friend has a cool collection of modified/prototype Fender guitars and amps- a Twin heavily modified by Paul Rivera (that I recently got back up and running), an Early Champ 12 with a factory installed Celestion speaker (can't remember the model), a pre production '52 Telecaster reissue, a modified '74 Strat (that I replaced the broken Sperzel tuners on), an American Standard that was given to him from Fender when his father passed away, as well as a nice '70s Les Paul Custom and more.

My friend was a music major who studied with Ted Greene so he really appreciates these things. He's a real melodic player who is just now rocking out a little.

These ultra-moderne ads with the air-brushed anthropomorphic guitars were the first ones I saw, as an early teen reading Guitar Player. I remember the trippy fairy-tale/Alice-in-Wonderland series that came after, but THIS was the ad that made me send away for the catalog that I stared at for a couple hundred hours.

I have a catalog from the 60's a good buddy gave me, it's so cool!!! I'll dig it out and take some pics. It's funny in that it specifically states in the amp adds to turn the volume down should you encounter distortion! LOL They were still holding onto that from the 50's!!!

Oh man, that's so cool, scan it and post it if you can!!

I myself find that era simply magic, wonderful. Rock n Roll was BREWING inside those amps!
