    Re: bare knuckle

I have Bare Knuckles in my el-cheapo Epiphone SG (I bought it that way with a Bigsby and Grovers on it too for only $275) and they make that guitar sound magical. I play it more than I play my "Real" Gibson SG.

    Re: bare knuckle

Just looked them up online. The ones I have must be the Riff Raff humbuckers, based on how they sound...and they're gosh-darned expensive! Worth more than I paid for the guitar itself!

    WooHoo! I got a deal.

Not as much as the CuNiFe Telenators that are being made to replace the newer Wide Range Humbuckers in the '72 Custom and Thinline Teles.

A former member here was marketing these and brought a set to a jam to showcase. They're amazing but at approx. $400 apiece they're really only good for people who make their living at playing guitars...or those who have too many dollars and not enough sense.

These are expensive to make, aren't they?

    Re: bare knuckle

Maybe so, Don, but putting $800 worth of pickups into a $700 guitar and hoping it's made the guitar sound more than twice as good is a good definition of an exercise in futility.

Now, I put a pair of TV Jones Classics in my Electromatic Hollowbody and (in my opinion) the $350 spent was money well spent (assuming of course I never sell the axe, 'cause I won't get my money out of it) because the guitar sounds so much nicer - in fact, for about a year it was my #2 guitar behind a Stratocaster. Now it's in the shop getting a pro setup because the action has drifted too much for me to realistically do. Hoping it becomes my #2 again after that.

and the Bare Knucks? They really are great but as Jim said they're awfully pricy.

I believe the $400 price on those wide-range reproductions has more to do with the maker's inflated sense of self and his intimate knowledge of the depth and breadth of a wannabee guitarist's capacity for delusion than it does the cost of making them. One scarcely needs a pair of pickups that cost eight Benjamins to sound good, but there are clearly those who believe you do.

There are plenty of replies regarding what you're talking about. The first three cover the entire knowledge base:

"Bare Knuckle Pickups are real good but overpriced."

What else do you need to know? Dial back the attitude a bit, son.

Del, check back to my first and second posts.

I do apologize for ranging so far afield of the original post's intent, but that's how we (often) do things here on TFF. No disrespect meant.

    Re: bare knuckle

Haven't tried the Strat pickups, but have Flat 50's in my Tele and they sound great. Best Tele type pickups I've tried anyway.

I don't think they're overpriced, you pay for what you get, my set weren't that much more than a pair of Seymours.

A friend had Irish Tours in a USA Strat and he rated them too.
