    audio editor?

I need to get a simple (and hopefully free) audio editor. Sometimes I like to take a track off a CD and slow it down to half speed, especially for students. I really want to avoid embedded ads too. Is there any decent freeware out there? If not, is there a relatively cheap package I could use? PC not Mac.

I used to use "Best Practice for this purpose. I think I found it on CNET Downloads website. It's a safe, free download from there...

Audacity is still free, i think, and surprisingly full-featured.
