    Brighter Tele Neck Pickup

I've finally come to the conclusion that I want a brighter Tele neck pickup. The one I currently have is a stock wind OC Duff neck pickup. It sounds pretty good, but for lack of a better description the high E string sounds weak. No amount of pickup adjustment helps. The other 5 strings sound nice and strong, and there's no issues with the bridge pickup so it's not the guitar. The other 5 strings could stand to use a bit more top end as well. If the pickup had an eq I'd keep the bass and mids where they are and just tweak the treble.

Any recommendations? I'm thinking of contacting OC Duff to have him wind me one of those tall tele neck pickups but I'm open to suggestions.

If you like the way the other five strings sound, I'd be looking at reasons why the high E is letting you down. Are you getting a good break angle above the nut and at the saddle? Is the string riding properly in the nut? What gauge and brand of string do you use?

Seems like the high E magnet has been degaused, I've had F style pups with one dead mag before. Weird but true.

I think you contacting O.C. is a good idea. He makes quality pups, plus he'll have an idea as to what to suggest for a replacement.

Jim, it's just with the neck pickup. The middle and bridge positions are fine.

I'll contact OC and see what he recommends.

I've seen 'em where one magnet was installed upside down on one string too. That makes it out-of-phase and weak.
