    Speaking of Steely Dan: Ruby Baby

    Ok, so it's NOT from SD but Donald Fanen's album The Nightfly. Anyone *coughPETEcoughcough* know the chords for this? Particularly the turnaround-

    The original (Dion & The Belmonts I think???) is just a basic blues and Fagen's version is similar with a few substitutions where the IV chord goes, and those brief vamps in between the verses. I'll take a listen tonight and see if I can suss them out.

    Also my "professional music society" (i.e. fraternity) in college actually did Fagen's exact version for a "Greek Sing" one year and I might even have a chart for that arrangement in my old college stuff. I'll take a look.

    Thanks. Any help on this one is appreciated.
    I listened & listened to the tune & thought, "Oh, it sounds like a I vi ii V turnaround, should be easy." But when I sat down & tried to chart it out I became befuddled.

    Re: Speaking of Steely Dan: Ruby Baby

    Sorry, just now sat down with it. 16 bar blues, not 12. Sorry. The versus are this:

    ||: F7sus /// | / / / /| F7 / / /|/ / / /|

    | F7sus /// | / / / /| F7 / / /|/ / / /|

    |Bb7sus / / /| / / / /|F7 / / /|Dm7 / Am7 / |

    |C7sus / / / |Bbsus/G / / /|F7 / / /| / / / / :||

    The solo section doesn't switch between the F7sus and F7, it just stays on F7 for the first eight.

    That Bbsus/G is really just a Gm7 chord, but I spelled it that way to have it make more sense in a blues format.

    Hope that helps, and let me know if I can explain more!
