    String T?

So why do I need a string T? My new neck with standard strat head stock and staggered tuners seems to play fine with out one...So what should I consider (listen for...) when thinking about if I should install one or not? The E and B ring true and fine without one.

Sounds like you don't need one!

When I forget to put a string under the string tree on one of my "Fender" guitars I get a very slight sitar like buzz. On guitars with very shallow string slots a string might pop out of its slot.
