    1966 Super Reverb Speaker Mystery

I have a 1966 Super Reverb, I bought it in about 1990, but for some reason the speakers that came with it were 16 ohms and not 8 ohms, why would this be? my theory is they are not the factory supplied speaker but at some time have been replaced with a new speaker but from a Fender dealer, but why 16 ohms? a mistake? also what make are they, Oxford, CTS or Utah? can any one shed some light on this matter.
The Super now houses 4 x Jensen P10r and sounds very sweet.

I believe that speaker is from the 18th week of 1979.

Maybe they just got a great deal on 16 ohm speakers, but you might want to check if the output transformer is original to the amp.

Thanks for the replies, no the output transformer was not the correct one for the amp, it now has four Jensen P10r reissues with the correct transformer. but what would be the idea of four 16 ohms speakers in a Super? here she is.

An 8 ohm transformer could be used for four 16 ohm speakers wired series/parallel,

4 ohm would be all speakers parallel

It was probably just a matter of using what was readily available.

That amp originally had a 2 ohm OT with four 8 ohm speakers wired parallel.

Which would be a BF/SF Bassman OT - the logical replacement if you couldn't find a Super Reverb OT handy.

    Correct.

Such a Bassman output tranny from Fender would carry the part number "125A13A" (FEIC era) or "022871" (FMI era).
