Road worn jazz bass - uh oh!

    Hi guys,

Anyone here own a Fender road worn 60's Jazz bass?

Saw a nice one in fiesta red at a local shop the other day. I might have gas, not 100% sure.

    Help!... Anyone?

    Will also take advice.

    Thanks,
    tbof

    yes, you have GAS.

If I hadn't got such a good deal on the CS '64 Jazz relic a few months ago, and if I didn't have a well worn-in Deluxe Active Jazz, I would own a Roadworn Jazz right now. Although in this colour:

Re: Road worn jazz bass - uh oh!

from what frankjohnson posted they are pretty nice. i've only played the telecaster model they make. it played and sounded nice, my only gripe was the weight, they seemed a little heavy. but in all honesty the weight doesn't normally bother me when i play. testing stuff out in the shop i might notice it.

as for red? oh yeah, i love red.

Re: Road worn jazz bass - uh oh!

I was actually looking for a cheap MIM 60' sunburst jazz bass but they didn't have any in stock. Then out of all the guitars and basses they had in the shop, the fiesta red struck me right away. So I took a closer look at it. The moment it was in my hands I knew there was something there, something magical like love at first sight.

To be honest, I never was crazy for any reliced guitars. I didn't have any opinion about them, good or bad. But I have to admit these RW look very nice and most of all fun to play (had also seen a P Bass in sunburst a few weeks ago that was nice). It's almost as if this red bass was speaking to me. I don't know how to describe the feeling, as if it was saying "play me, play me".

This sort of thing never happened to me before. I thought I'd love before but I guess I was wrong. Since I've seen this bass, I can't sleep, I don't eat much and I only think about being with her.

    Am I going nuts?

Anyway. I'll wait a few days. The shop owner said they'll be getting a RW sunburst in a few days. I'll see if my love had anything to do with this particular bass (the fiesta red) or the RW series in general.

I played the jazz - a friend has it and brings it out from time to time.

Yeah - it talks to me - it talks dirty! Makes my toes curl, like a girl that can suck start a harley on a cold morning!

    Yeah - its like that!

    LOL!

    Thanks guys.

I'll also need a bass amp, since this will be my first bass (did I mention I'm new to bass?). Was thinking an Ampeg BA112 combo or a Fender Rumble 75. I don't care for tubes at the moment. It's just for practice and jam with some friends once in a while. Any other recommendations?

Line6 LowDown LD150 - great little amp for the money. can handle a gig as well unlike the BA112 or the Rumble 75.

Thanks, will look into this model. I don't gig live, just play with some friends. All I really need is an amp that is loud enough to cut through the drum a little. We don't play loud (basement level - we're getting old.)

I also like what Tech21 makes but they don't seem to be building bass combos anymore.

Store called yesterday. Said they'd receive a sunburst Road Worn Jass Bass.

Well... Another GAS victim. I just couldn't resist. I'm a weak man.

This bass is simply a piece of art, a masterpiece. IMHO, the Road Worn basses look a hundred times more authentic than the RW Strats or Teles. It's another species. Looks awesome, feels awesome, plays awesome. Just awesome!

Oh! Did I say it was an awesome bass?

    Why would you say weak?

these are great instruments. I couln't figure out what I liked the most about the feel - and figure it MIGHT be the 7.25 rad. neck?

I would trade my Jaguar towards one of these! And I like my Jag A LOT!

Definitely the neck has a lot to do with my love for this bass. But the nitro offers a nice feel and vintage look too. Very convincing. I still can't believe it's mine! lol!

It seems to look a whole lot more realistic than the recession-relic Strats and Teles.

I think the rosewood board is a big part of that.
The maple necks on the Teles I've seen look too freshly sanded.
The wear spots on these JB bodies are a little clean. But there's more variation in just the 2 examples linked in this thread than in the dozen or two Teles I've seen in person.
Still, even those were good sounding, nice playing guitars.

totally agree neo, i thought they played and sounded good (a little on the heavy side) but looked awful! i think tbof has really scored with this bass.

    Quick update.

Got me a new Ampeg Portaflex PF-350 and a PF-115HE cab a few weeks ago. I really love this 60's setup, the bass really sounds sweet through the cab or the DI XLR out. I found the sound I was looking for.

Wow - sorry for the delay -

I love this so far - the head has been great and affordable. I haven't paired with yet with the PF cab - except in the store.

the bass - fits my hand JUST like I would like, the pups sound exactly like I want and the instrument as a whole "Gives me stuff" if you know what i mean......

Nice! Glad you like it. Now I'm thinking of getting a RW P-bass in fiesta red. I just love how those worn necks feel. The nitro adds a nice touch to these basses. I wish they would make them in more finishes. A Lake Placid blue Jazz bass would be nice. :)

As if the Jazz bass wasn't enough... I just had to buy this one too (boxing day sale...)

I wanted the black one but they didn't have a 4 string in stock. This one will be just as good.

It's a nice PJ hybrid bass. More modern sounding than my Jazz. Lots of punch, both pups bring a nice balance. The P is round but precise. The J is punchy and bright. It's a nice complement to the Ampeg PF-350 (sounded good in the store with the PF-500 I tried it with - you'd like it with yours). This bass has hard rock written all over it !

Oh and... yes, I'm a big whore, jusht like your modjer.
