Very, very nice.
Excuse my ignorance, but is a guitar of that period considered to be "pre-CBS?"
It's actually a CBS period model. They bought Fender at the beginning of 1965.

Some of the early '66s were made with pre-CBS parts.

You're ringing my bell.
I love the blondes, no matter what you call them.
Forgive my ignorance also but I let a sweet '72 slip though my hands.
Why pearloid on the reverse?
Rosewood board like that, and same body style.
It will happen.
But the longer I wait, the more expensive they get.
I could have had her for 500 dollars.
It's a real nice player. It has a larger neck profile which I find more comfortable. Has more bite than twang but that's probably due to the 1 meg pots but you can roll off the highs pretty easily. It didn't take long for CBS to start changing things. They had owned Fender for almost 2 years by the time this Tele was made and the pot values and wire material had started to change.

Why pearloid on the reverse?
I don't know of any reason for the pearloid other than that's what the supplier had. CBS beancounters probably got a good deal on it and just decided to use the material with the plain side out. I know they bought a lot of pots in 1966 so that guitars made up through 1969 are likely to have 1966 pots so this may have been something like that. I just know they did it for a short period from around the beginning of 67 to somewhere around 1969 probably when the material ran out.

Several guitars in different colors
Things to make them fuzzy
Things to make them louder

Damn that lower edge of the body looks like it dropped out of a second story window! Very sexy nonetheless. I give it 2 thumbs up.
Hubba, hubba!

BIG air gap on the neck pocket, but nice nonetheless
Very nice.
What memories that guitar brings back!
My first Fender was a '66 Tele just like that.
