Just picked one up a few days ago. I'm going to be gigging again next month and I needed a back up. Anyone else got one?
Pretty cool bass...

LOU, It's a Fender Highway 1 Series Jazz Bass. Check this out.
They are kind of an American made budget line. Pretty cool, IMO. The pickups seem weak but I will probably change those and drop in a J-Retro like my other Jazz. :nelson
Here's the bass that this is a back up for.
Winston, how do you like that J-Retro thing? I've been thinking about it, but I don't know if it's like taking something that does one thing really well (a 60s Jazz Bass) and try to make it do a lotta things sorta well... I've got the G&L for a more modern "bitey" sound, but the Jazz is just so smooth... The G&L lends itself to live application much better than the Jazz, but I really love playing the Jazz... a conundrum if you will...

Some people are like Slinkies . . . not really good for anything, but you
still can’t help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.
I really dig the J-Retro. It puts so much control of your tone right at your fingertips. IMO, it's absolutely excellent for live situations because you can continually tweak your sound while you are playing. I don't see how you could go wrong dropping one in your jazz.
Does it give you a big volume kick? Can you keep a very "passive" tone? How much does one of those units set you back? Here's the biggie, would it be possible to wire the pickups "backwards" so that the solo pickup in the passive mode would be the neck pu? I find the bridge pu useless, except in rare occasions to mix in with the neck. Of course I'm not hacking any wood or hardware on my '65 Jazz mind you....

Yes, It did for me. You also have gain trims for each pickup.Does it give you a big volume kick?
Yes you can. I'm still using passive pups, too.Can you keep a very "passive" tone? How much does one of those units set you back?
$250 from BassNW .
I'm not sure about this. The cool thing about this unit is you can talk directly to the maker here. Here's the biggie, would it be possible to wire the pickups "backwards" so that the solo pickup in the passive mode would be the neck pu?
Thanks Winston, I'll be looking into this!
