    EMERGENCY Original Jazz pickup question.

I'm installing a set of Original Jazz pickups into a homebrew bass,
and am wondering about the foam-and metal base plates.
What do I attach the black wire to? I presume it's a ground of some type - do I lead it out with the pickup leads and solder to the back of the pots?
    or just the pickup themselves?

Thanks, Unfortunately that doesn't show what I need. This wire and piece is separate form the pickup itself.
Plus, I'm using the stack knob config (like the Vintage '62 Jazz)
I have that sheet, plus the one from the pickups themselves.

The shielding in the pickup cavities and control rout needs to be grounded for maximum efficiency. Solder the black wires to the rear of a volume pot and you should be good to go. Don't forget to ground the bridge as well.

    Thanks, that does help.
So send that wire on the sheild through with the pickup wires, and ground that off with the black from the pickup itself. The bridge is all set... just questioning the others.:
    I appreciate it.
