Tommy, it really depends on the amp you have...a good place to start is with the tone set relatively flat. This, of course, is hard to achieve with certain tone stacks, but you want a fairly neutral sound so that all the nuances of the ME50 come through. Then, once you've got your sounds tweaked with the ME50 and the amp, you can use the amp's EQ controls to compensate for the way the room sounds by making very small adjustments.

that can show me what laughter means
And we'll fill in the missing colors
In each other's paint-by-number dreams..."
Rick's nailed it.
But you might also find that no matter what you do, the tone seems flat and lifeless. This is sort of business as usual with these multi-effects packages. I've found every one I've tried to be disappointing. YMMV, though.
Thanks, thats what I thought but wasnt sure,
I set the amp bass, mid, and treb at 5,is that flat or
bass 0,mid full, and treb 0,just wondering about it,
I know its just a matter of playing around with the eq.
Do these things even require a guitar amp? Couldn't you go right into a PA or a keyboard amp? Guitar amps are typically about coloring the sound. But with a pedal like this, don't you want to just make its output louder with as little additional coloring as possible?
s'all goof.
I guess I could but why do that when I have 2 half stacks.
Tommy, what are your amps? I'd say that starting out at 5/5/5 on the TMB controls would be a good starting point. Then, if they're Marshall, you'd want to put the presence somewhere in the middle too...
Sometimes I find that I like my basic, uncolored clean sound to be 6/4/6...I'm not using Multifx but a fairly elaborate pedalboard (though not on the level of a mmquain!) and with my Marshall and my Voxes that seems to work pretty well...

A warm tube amp will really liven one of those pedals up. IMO, Marshalls don't really sound that great with multiFX... the circuit just doesn't like 'em. Of course, they sound worse to my ears on solid-state equipment. I like it through the PA, then the sound guy can really dial in the tone and i don't have to do jack squat!!
I sat in last night with a friend's band and the rhythm guitar/vocalist frontman was using a Behringer V-Amp right into the PA. It was a tad bright to my ears, but nobody in the crowd seemed to care. Of course I had my Voxes and felt oh so much better having amps behind me.
Then again, he hardly had to schlep anything while I had 2 heads, 2 (small) cabs, a rack unit, a pedalboard, and all the cables, etc...
Someday I suppose people will all resort to direct-into-the PA with our multifx but there are plenty of us (like Tommy) who still like our amps behind us, even with the latest whiz-bang processing...

By the way, CzarSketch, the Marshall I have is a 50 watt AVT half-stack - which seems to take to effects pretty well...

I run 2 100 watt jcm900 tube heads into 2 celestion half stacks,
I'll try the PA out with it next fri at rehersal..
Tommy, that's some serious firepower!!! Do you need all that volume, or is it more for the menacing look of a pair of half stacks?? Do you use the overdrive on the amps, or is it mainly just clean power?
By the way, if you use a direct box, you can plug the ME50 into the PA AND use the parallel out to feed your amps.
Some of the floor processors provide stereo line outs to feed the PA and, in addition, amplifier outs (I know the X3 and XT Live PODs do)...

Tommy, I just had a look at the manual. If you want to run a true stereo signal into your PA, all you'd need is a fairly long stereo cable or a stereo Y cable out the back of the Line/Phones jack on the ME-50, which is stereo - AND you can use the guitar amp L and R outputs to feed your amps for an onstage monitor...

Rick you are correct to a certain extent..
I stop playing heavey metal about 8 years ago and just
sat in my bedroom and played blues, then came across this forum..
I had a strat and wanted to be part of something more tonefull,
But I meet a bass player from ventura cali that moved here, and
Played classic style metal and his guitar player moved hear also,
He showed up with a marshall stack and some cheesy pre programed pedal,
The equipment I had was not loud enough so I resorted to getting more power, because he had a tendancy to drown everthing out, with
wizz swerrly sound,he is very jealous of me,but at the same token
loves the way I play,I also run a harke 4-10 mid in my setup.
I split the me 50 between the 2 heads so I run in stereo,I just have a problem with the high end sometimes,as far as the PA goes our drummer use's most of the channles,,,
I have just bought this me 50 a few weeks back before I used stomp boxes and had way to much feedback, but the more I use this
the more I likey..
We write original songs we are not to heavey on leads more about story,we write about things we like,I like Lord of the rings..
so we wrote a song about gollem,I will post it ..
