    JBL 2215B speakers:

Are these of any use to a guitarist? Somebody gave me a couple "Voice Of The Theater" bins & these were in them. I thought about hooking them up to see what they sounded like.
    anyone ever use them?

The 2215B is a SR/PA driver intended for use with crossover-fed multi-driver arrays. The basket and alnico V magnet structure are identical to the late-production "K" series musical instrument speakers and can be re-coned for guitar or bass using the appropriate D/E/K re-cone kit.

Congratulations, Robert -- you scored gold!

As the kids say these days, w00t!
Now what's D/E/K mean? Are they available to the public or is this something best left to the pros?

D/E/K refers to the available rebuild kits to turn those drivers into proper instrument speakers. Assuming you have them re-coned, you'll end up with the equivalent of a K130 15-inch guitar speaker (which corresponds, in sonic terms, to the D130F of the 60s/70s era). The "E series" JBL's are similar in spec to the D/K except they use a ferrite (ceramic) magnet structure.

Re-coning a JBL is best left to the professionals. I send mine to Ron at Neal's Speaker Service in Sacramento but Orange County also does excellent work on Lansing, EV, Altec, etc.
