anyone put regualar SC pickups in a G&L ASAT?

I've got an ASAT special with the big ole soapbar pickups. Anyone ever put regular tele pickups in one? I'm pretty sure I have to get a pickguard that is made for it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Any thoughts?

Actually, I think it would be much easier to just get a regular tele now that I look this over. Not easy.

With a custom pickguard it should be a drop in affair for Start style singles and/or Tele neck pup. You might have to do a little routing/clearancing for a Tele bridge pup but it would all be concealed under the pickguard.

If you wanted to use a Tele bridge plate it would get more difficult, but you could just mount the Tele pup to the guard and keep it simple.

Any custom pickguard maker that does ASAT guards should be able to hook you up.

I'd try Chandler, Jeannie, or Pickguardian. They all do good work.

Rio Grande also makes replacement pup for the ASAT Special.

That's true. Maybe worth a try. I was thinking that the bridge would get in the way of things, but that pic shows it can be done. Thanks!
