    'New' old pedal

A friend loaned me a 'distortion' pedal last night that actually sounds pretty good. Never heard of it before. It's a big square tan colored metal box that says 'Ross Distortion' on it. It's kinda reminds me in some way of an old TS808 I had only nastier. Anybody ever played one of these? Oh yeah, this guy is a hoot. When he gave it to me I said "where did you get this?" and he said "dunno, I've had it since I got married (apparently long time ago), but this thing still puts out..." LOL

Ross distortion pedals are, I believe, based on the MXR pedals with their own little tweaks. I know folks who used them, and sounded pretty good, but it's not really my thing.

Ah! Never heard that term before. Very apt.

sure, and the fins are for cooling them down, like a heatsink...

Actually, the fins are there to give it that 'underwater' sound.

    Re: 'New' old pedal

I just googled an saw two with asking prices of $125 and $150!
They both looked like this one, with the angled box & knobs sunk into the top.

There are other versions that look more like an MXR Distortion+ box.
    There's even a script version.

I've always liked that design with the inset knobs.

The inset knobs are a PITA to remove. I've got them on a phaser.

Yeah, these pedals suck in every way. Nobody should want one of these... ;-)

    Re: 'New' old pedal

I had an old Ross chorus like this:

I used it for years until I got my Beta Vibe and it became redundant to keep it on my board.

It never gave me a problem and brought $90 dollars on the 'bay when I sold it.

I picked it up at a garage sale in '82 w/a Silvertone single lipstick pickup, in black with silver sparkle, guitar and amp case (in really good shape to boot) for $35.

Now where's my time machine? I wanna' go back!

I love them old Ross pedals. Not In this pic, but I have the EQ Ross pedal also. All of them are dated to the 70's

    L-R Flanger, Distortion/Phaser and a Stereo Delay.

    Oh the tone

They're unuseable on account of the recessed knobs, LOL.
