The nut route looks like it's for a locking nut - but why would you put a locking trem and nut on a single coil strat style guitar?? Does any one else just think that this is Gibbo winding Fendy up??

Would you spend this kind of money on development and tooling just to get a rise out of a competitor?

I sure wouldn't. They think they can SELL this thing.

But I'll bet they're getting a sick feeling in the pit of their stomach right about now... when they announced this alliance between Gibson and Authentic Hendrix on a blog page that invited discussion, the comments ran so negative that people were calling for violence against Janie Hendrix. If I were in marketing over there, I'd be having a beer after work with some of the others and asking, "Jeeeez, do you think we've screwed the pooch on this Jimi thing?"

Well, we all know that Jimi used a lock nut Floyd.

This is almost as funny as the the "Hendrix Signature Prewired Pickguard" somebody was selling back in the 80's. Some crappy overwound pickups with a reverse slanted bridge. Because Jimi's name just wasn't enough to sell the product, they got the bozo from Duran Duran to endorse it.

Aside from CDs and DVDs, most of what "Authentic Hendrix" sells looks like souveniers.

You think they'll get a C&D letter from FMIC about the photo of Jimi playing what is obviously a Fender Stratocaster, and not a Gibson product? Sounds like the most blatant trademark infringement I can think of.

And it was thus. FMIC's legal team directly confronts Henry J's legal team, and both companies go bankrupt suing and countersuing each other.

The husks of the companies are purchased by Mitsubishi and Hyundai, respectively, and the legal battle resumes.

How odd that the guitar in Jimi's hands is cut out almost completely in every photo in that article. Except for the one Les Paul he's playing with the trem springs showing on the back. At least I presume it's a Les Paul. ;-)

I was just thinking the same thing as I looked at that Music Radar article. There's just no way she didn't approach Fender first to make a new line of Jimi Hendrix Signature Strat toys -- unless she knew they wouldn't do it. Either Fender turned her down flat, or they didn't offer her a big enough cut, or she didn't bother with Fender because she knew they'd turn her down.

(I keep checking for a date of April 1 on all these articles. I'd love to find out it's just an elaborate hoax. But if it is, it's way elaborate...and out of season.)

I'm guessing those photos are of the $25,000.00 limited-edition version, with pickups dipped in Authentic Hendrix vomit recovered from the ambulance.

Look at the neck pocket on the unfinished bodies and the rear control routing in the pictures of the first link - could they be releasing a pickguardless version as well ?!? Akin to the Fender FMT or QMT strats?

That "Little Wing" tchotchke doesn't qualify as a true Gibson Lifestyle item. It's roughly on par with a coffee mug or a keychain.

As poorly received as it might be, that set-neck deal with the funny rout will be a top-shelf guitar of some sort.

Have Fender not already issued a Hendrix inspired strat with reversed angle bridge pickup & headstock? ( it just confuses me, but at least it's a Fender instrument). Gibson must see a marketing opportunity but I think it's doomed. ( Quick- buy one- it'll become a rarity! )
