Sad!
I'm seeing TWO trainwrecks in progress, and one calls itself Gibson.
That one is just sick, the other is more like an intervention.
Ridonculous!!!!!!

Man, I loved when Jimi would sling his grand piano behind his head and play it backwards.

I didn't care for that so much. I was in the front row, and my eyebrows never grew back.

WTF? I mean really, WTF?
How about a Jimi Hendrix cello?Originally Posted by Stonefreefuzz1

And while they're at it, how about a Jimi Hendrix jazz-bass like Noel's Fender, but with the Gibson logo on the headstock.
Clearly nothing is off limits. I think Fender secretly bought Gibson, and is trying to run it into the ground.
I found the piano (and I'd sure love to have one)... but has Gibson suddenly removed all mention of the Hendrix guitars from the site?
See if you can find 'em. I can't.
Is the piano tuned down a half step?
And I don't mean aesthetically.

I can't really check here, but I suspect that the overwhelming negative reaction might have something to do with it.
You can't slip anything past Henry J. Well, some things, maybe. If he gets hit over the head with it. Wait, no, that was Pete Towshend and Abbie Hoffman..

I just checked and can attest that indeed all mention of the Jimi Hendrix guitars is gone from the website.
The only evidence that this ever happened is this Gibson forum thread that now also notes that the website pages are gone.

My guess is that Gibson expunged all evidence of this travesty and would really like to expunge this from our collective memories as well.
If Gibson were to send me a Les Paul Standard, I personnally would be willing to forget this ever happened. Just putting it out there.

Henry is really bad for the company's image. His marketing people must have hell to deal with.
Yep I tried to show my wife the infamous new Gibson Strat yesterday, nowhere to be found.
I think they figured if they could only sell one to Jerryjg what's the point.
Hah!! Post #17 there reminds me of my first electric guitar, or version 1.5 of it.
I had a Memphs LP copy. There was a crack up by the nut, a friend donated a neck from department store Jag-ish guitar, with the appropriate inappropriate headstock. The Bizarro World cut-rate sister of the guitar in that photo, only in black.
I had no concept of proper scale lenghth, but it worked.

Well I found a blog that has the pics up. I saved them just so I can always have them. I'll post em here too, lest we never forget, muahahaha!
If these lead to legal problems, then obviously feel free 71818/pc to take them down.
I'm guessing that someone on the board at Gibson finally had the stones to stand up at a staff meeting and admit to what they all secretly suspected......that they were about to catastrophically step on their collective dicks by marketing this travesty. Whatever their monetary losses for materials, tooling, R&D, marketing, etc, THEY DESERVE IT!

50 years from now, the Hendrix model will be the new Moderne. Guitar historians will argue about whether Gibson ever really made one...and an ancient Billy Gibbons will say he has one in his collection....

Good thing we were all paying attention.
I'd still like to see a completed one, if only to find out what goes in the big hole behind the bridge.

Yeah, I'm curious, too. What funky kind of vibrato was it going to have?

Maybe that hole behind the bridge was for the 'robot' system, you know, to keep it out of tune.
