    Presenting....The 'Telebastard'

Its been a looong time in the works, but I finally got it ,well..finalized. Heres my Tele with the identitiy crisis. Your looking at a 3 piece American Fender Tele Ash body, with a USACG Maple/Pau Ferro fretboard neck with nice huge frets and a fltter radius up the neck for extreme bends. I loaded her up with an aged white pickgaurd I had to modify myself to accept the Minihumbucker, which is a fat, thick sounding overwound GFS 'Minibucker. The bridge is a Callaham Polished plate that houses a GFS Lil Crunchy, that has just enough of that Tele Twang to keep me smiling, but won't get too bright or thin. I really put this together on the cheap, except for the Callaham bridge and the wiring, which I ended up botching and having to get new parts take in to have done for me. Its got CTS 500K pots and a .33 orange drop capacitor. Tuners are Hipshot lockers, but I'm going to replace them with Schaller lockers.
The guitar Sounds really excelent IMHO< and plays like , okay, it plays excellent.
It very badly needs a set of String tree retainers, even with the staggered tuners.
    Without further adeau..the "Telebastard";

That's a fine looking Telebastard. I love the headstock and that neck. The pickup combination looks great.

Thanks. I think some day I might change that neck out to a regular Tele shape neck with a maple headstock , but also a Pau Fero fingerboard , because I don't really love the dark tint on that neck together with the light Ash body , and it would also free up that neck for another Strat assembly.

looks sweet jerry! yeah, that neck definitely has "character". ain't nothing wrong with a strat neck on a tele, i've done it in the past.

did you buy that purple strat guard? i sure as hell dug it, if i only had something to put it on.

    best my man!

Thank you Sir, but the more i look at that dark tint neck juxtaposed to that light ash body, the more I am repulsed. No, its definitely coming off..OFF WITH THE HEAD!!!! lol

No time to type. Got to get to the beer store by 1am. Did a superfast job of x-ing necjk and tuners. MUCH happier now with looks. Took me about 40 miutes-they should have spped lutheir comeptitions on tv. It was a major case of waht the Greeks called "Hubris". Pride comes befpre the fall.

    Re: Presenting....The 'Telebastard'

1;41 CST. Holy Frook! Preliminary report is that neck is stabalized, but action is set higher than i prefer( which is as low as possible) because it definitely needs a pro set up with leveeling of the frets, unlike the USACG. This is a Mitey Mite 2 piece maple neck with some birsdeye that I had.
These necks are good necks, I mean, they are hard rock maple. What special recipe is there to a CRC Maple neck ?Radiused at 9.5 i believe , and with medium Jumbo frets. I believe I paid 139.00 for this plus shipping.
Heres the main point I'd like to drive home...The next person who says he cannot hear any difference between maple and Rosewood fingerboards, I'm personally going to find out where they stay and crown them!
The difference between the Mitey Mite Maple neck with Maple fretboard I just put on and the USACG Maple neck with the Pau Ferro fretboard( which claims to sound just like Maple), is E-Normous!
    10 times brighter and snappier.
I think on a Strat, you can get some real similar necktones between Rosewood and Maple, but on a tele bridge?- Fugheddaboudit!

to me it's all about the attack, maple is "immediate", whereas rosewood sounds "delayed" to me.

1 am? cutoff around here is 1:45 am, go figure!

anyways, anyhoodle, that guitar looks better with the maple neck.

That is truly fabulous. I'd love to see it with a tortoise shell pickguard too.

The other neck was unique, but I like the looks of this neck. It suits the body. Sometimes plainer is better.

Much, much better with the new neck.

Want to sell me the USACG with the dark fret board you decided not to use?

Thanks, no, that neck is reserved for my future Magnum Opus Strat build. Its crazy perfect, and Ive had over a dozen different nice necks, in fact, I had it on a guitar I never should have dismantled. It was perfect, but at the time I didn't have the experience to realize it.
I am going to try and recreate it, using the USACG.

    Re: Presenting....The 'Telebastard'

Very nice job Jerry! I liked it with either neck. The dark fret dots on the rosewood neck is kinda classy looking to me. But I do think the maple fretboard does look better. And yes, I can clearly hear a snappier tone on my maple fretboard versus rosewood.

I do love the look of that USACG rosewood/figured maple neck though... I'll be looking forward to see what you end up doing with it.

Thanks. Looks good , but it plays like dogcrap.
I'm going to have to call USACG and see what they can suggest. Anyway, it'll look better with a real T shaped( sorta) neck.
