    Completely underestimated the fire...

While thousands have fled, two people who tried to ride out the firestorm in a backyard hot tub were burned. The pair in Big Tujunga Canyon, on the southwestern edge of the fire, "completely underestimated the fire" and the hot tub provided "no protection whatsoever," Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said Sunday.
Note to self: fill tub with water next time...

Obviously candidates for a higher education.......man, how stupid can you be.....

My mom is out at my sister's in LA and all she sees is the huge cloud of smoke over the hills and says it smells like a campfire at the beach......yowza......

My best wishes to all that live out there and stay out of the hottub when the firemen tell you to scram!

This was mentioned on the weather channel this morning.
I think Al Roker assumed the tub was full. That was the impression I got.
    Still a dumb move, but...

Wildfire = bad thing to underestimate.

The "wild" part should have tipped them off.

Just goes to show, you can be rich enough to afford a house with hot tub in scenic Southern California...and still have not a lick o' common sense.

Ahh I didn't read it right. I thought it just said tub, and I thought of one of those old clawfoot tubs, turned upside down with them hiding underneath. I'm a but at least I would have evac'd!

Just to give you some idea of how intense it is here are some pics from the Times.

Awesome and awful photos. My thoughts go out to the people enduring the fires.

Wow. That's scary. I can smell it in the air and see a little smoke down here, ~60 miles away.

Wonder if Chris Neel is getting ready to evacuate, not sure how close the flames are to Eagle Rock.

They're about 8 miles away from Eagle Rock. Close, but not dangerously close yet.

That's not too bad-still too close for comfort, but the pics I've seen of people who can see it from out front of their house...now that's scary.

Prayers and best wishes to all in the fire's path.
