The pair in Big Tujunga Canyon, on the southwestern edge of the fire, "completely underestimated the fire" and the hot tub provided "no protection whatsoever," Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said Sunday.

I think Al Roker assumed the tub was full. That was the impression I got.

Wildfire = bad thing to underestimate.

Ahh I didn't read it right. I thought it just said tub, and I thought of one of those old clawfoot tubs, turned upside down with them hiding underneath. I'm abut at least I would have evac'd!

Wow. That's scary. I can smell it in the air and see a little smoke down here, ~60 miles away.
Wonder if Chris Neel is getting ready to evacuate, not sure how close the flames are to Eagle Rock.

They're about 8 miles away from Eagle Rock. Close, but not dangerously close yet.

That's not too bad-still too close for comfort, but the pics I've seen of people who can see it from out front of their house...now that's scary.
I'm hoping some of the "blow-by" from that hurricane down Baja way will dowse that fooker out.
