    American Vintage '52 Reissue Tele

Can I assume this is everyone's baseline Tele? Some of the other threads dance in circles about this model.

Seems to be the one to me. Any comments regarding the pups?

Back in the day I had my choice of a white 20th Anniversary Les Paul Custom, or the original blonde butterscotch Reissue Tele which this American Vintage seems to be be based on.

I took the LP...probably should have taken the Tele...

I will argue my Baja Tele does pretty much the same for lots less coin......

The Baja has a modern, flatter radius, larger frets, and that fancy switching going on. If you're after a "real" vintage experience, it's not the Baja.

That said, it's my favorite production model Tele these days too. I simply love the feel of the neck - so much so that I have a Baja neck on each of my part-o-teles.
    s'all goof.

Love the AVRI 52, did some recording with mine last night,a joy to play and a joy to look at! It's the one guitar I've always wanted but never owned, while in the midst of a massive Stones kick, I sold my SG and picked this guy out. Since march I've been one happy camper

Not the best pic but here's my Fender family. AVRI 52 is my favorite tele.

If you REALLY want Tele bang for the buck, there's always the Classic Vibe Tele!

I have an ash Texas Highway One Tele... in blonde with duncan pickups, bakelite pickgard, classic stamped steel bridge, brass saddles and the vintage tuners. at $600 used, I got the essential elements of the '52 reissue. I even like the neck radius better.

I had one of them 52 RI's It was awesome. The other guitarist in my band bought one too. His is great as well. I love the radius, the three saddle bridge. The solid feel. Very cool guitars.

Yes, quite true. I am really a big fan of the vintage radius and vintage frets......

I had the S1 switch removed from my Baha and another capacitor put it. Used a linear tone pot after discussing with my tech. We kept the 4 way.....sounds great and you can really roll off the tone and get cool sounds.

Anyway, I would have loved the '52 RI but the was not into that so to keep the peace I made a compromise....

The '52 AVRI Tele is a staple of the Fender line and the guitar is a key part of Fender history. They are awesome guitars but cost a decent penny....

i have one from 2003 and love it

played with aguy who had a 55 and they sounded pretty close to each other

Great light weight and very resonant, I may want to try no caster pups but oh well.
My git sales juts told me they have gone up in price quite a bit

In theory I like the '52 reissue, but I can't stand the nasty orange looking finish. They get a more authentic finish on the classic vibes and bajas than they do on the USVRI.

A good Baja, with the S1 and 4-way switches ripped out, is better in virtually every way than the USVRI, for something like half the price.

I went for my 52 mainly because it didn't have that orangy finish, I have seen so many that look orange though, as you described, I guess I got lucky I guess!

(Note: Mine is also a factory special run thin skin, that might have something to do with the more "authentic" finish perhaps? )

That's sweet picture too TJ! I plan on posting a few of mine here soon. Since getting the 5E5A rebuild from you my CV Tele's been getting a workout. I seem to be using it more than my Strat these days... at least for the classic rock stuff. However they both sound great through that rig!

Re: American Vintage '52 Reissue Tele

I've had a few 52RIs pass through my collection, all very nice. Nice, nice medium sized necks with great profiles. The one Baja Tele I owned briefly was not in the same league sorry to say, soundwise or playing wise. Kept it for about a week and traded it back. However after owning a NOS Nocaster with the killer baseball bat neck I find it hard to go back to the skinny neck 52s!

Can't stand the '52 RI old style wiring/neck PU thang. It's just, IMO, un-use-able unless yer a jazzer. Waaaaay too 'warm' (translate DARK city). Other than that pretty nice, but def overpriced...

Re: American Vintage '52 Reissue Tele

Agreed Gris, my 52 RI was bought used and came with the modern wiring change which for me made it the perfect tele. Also agree with the overpriced statement. Unreal expectations from Fender and while I've not seen any numbers I would be curious to know if their price increases negatively affected sales. It certainly has at my house.
