    HD-28

Since I am in the mood for posting pictures I want to take a moment to show off my Martin HD-28. It is the "root" for my guitar skills.

    Enjoy.

ah. I thought it might have been some type of microphone.

Mine's got the Fishman Ellipse Blender and there's a mic on a tiny gooseneck inside. The preamp and controls are under the top side edge of the sound hole.

WHAT Monsoon!!! This is the driest I have seen it in 35 years of living here. I am at the base of the Superstitions, where storms will bounce around for while and dump their loads. We haven't had a good thunder boomer in about six weeks.

    How about you?

Beautiful guitar. Are the back and sides rosewood or mahogany? Looks nice and dark through the soundhole.

    D-28s are rosewood.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if all of them were rosewood or not -- even though the HD-28 is definitely the guitar I'd get if I could justify spending 2-3 grand on an acoustic. Maybe an HD-28V if I was feeling really flush.

Well we're a little behind the power curve in the rain department here in Cochise County. But the RH has remained fairly constant at around 55% (periodically higher during a rainstorm) for the past two months. We had good precip yesterday......right after I finished tinkling the grass of course.

Rosewood, with scalloped bracing. I also replaced the plastic pins with ebony ones to help bring out all of the tone of the guitar. It really helped, and it absolutely loves La Bella 80/20's or Martin SP's.

I like the look of ebony pins, but prefer a harder material like bone for pins.

I just got this a couple months ago. It's a 0000-28H (M28 Herringbone). Same woods as the D28H.

That is really something! How do you like the 0000 shape compared to the Dreadnaught?

I have a set of bone pins for it. Really great sound with tremendous overtones that cause it to ridiculously reverberate. But I kept chipping the edges of the pins with the balls on the ends of the strings. It would rattle all the time. Trying to dig the bone chips out of the inside of the guitar was a real hassle. The tone and volume with the bone pins though ... that was something else.

I like it a lot. It has a slightly bigger lower bout and a thinner body than the D-28. It retains much of the lower end (not as 'boomy') and is real comfortable to sit with. It's got a really sweet, broad spectrum sound and is typically Martin. I'm really looking forward to recording with it.

I got turned on to this body style by listening to and reading about Steve Earle and his sig. Martin (M-21)

    BTW- your D-28 is stellar!!!

    Nice acoustic!

I've been wanting a Martin for years now, but just can't justify spending that kind of cash for a guitar.

I really like the concert models.
