Not for guitar specifically, but sure, I remember newsgroups like that. Far too clunky. Modern forums are much better.

I even remember bulletin board systems, which predated newsgroups. I'd dial into 'em with my 1200-baud modem. Anybody remember Fidonet?

    The web is better.

Haven't been there in years. Fat Willie was a guy I remember from there.

I used to hang on the Prodigy Blues BBS eons ago, when I thought I was a blues player. I then graduated to the Amps 'n More private dial-up BBS. Back when folks were rediscovering RDH 3rd Edition, and Tremaine's AudioCyclopedia. Back when you could buy NOS tubes for $1 each at hamfests.....

You had 12000 baud modems? I remember 300 baud and 110 baud modems with acoustic couplers.

I used to use newsgroups when I was with Compuserve. Lost all my access when I switched ISPs. Sad, but it was lost newsgroups or keep paying through the nose for internet connection.

I active was on rec.music.makers.bass and alt.guitar in the early '90s. probably 92-94ish

A buddy of mine ran a BBS in the late '80s and early '90s. I'd dial in with my 1200baud modem from work to play text based games. Somethings never change! LOL!

I remember those newsgroups! Seemed miraculous at the time. Anyone remember Lord Valve? What an arrogant wanker he was....but he knew his stuff.

I was always more into rec.beatles or whatever. They had a Beatle expert moderator who took a dislike to me, so it was fun to pull her chain.
