    For what it is worth, I solved the original problem or question by a good set up and moving the humbucker bridge pickup closer to the strings.

    Now, let's all find another problem to beat about for the next few months.....

    Why didn't you try several different fretboards first, that would have been easier!

    For my 2 cents worth.

    I have tried both a Maple & Rosewood necks on the same guitar body (my old Japanese '57 ReIssue) and did hear a difference.

    The Maple neck had more Country Twang (for the want of a better word to discribe it) of the 2 and the Rosewood had a more smoother mellow Blues sound to it.

    It wasn't a massive difference but the sonic characteristics were there, I would say that it coloured the tone about 10-15% of the guitar.

    Out of the 2, I prefer Rosewood necks but more for the feel than the sound.

    I can't say about guitars, but debates like this can have a very significant effect on the tone of a forum.
    Several guitars in different colors
    Things to make them fuzzy
    Things to make them louder
    orange picks
