I have no financial interest, I just saw 1953 tele for so cheap, then opened the ad:

We have the technology. We can rebuild it.
Wouldn't the neck and electronics be worth that?
neck doesn't look right...
Neck/headstock's been way over sanded. All rounded over.
A little tint goes a long way.
It now shows this;

Did Fender axe it?
I don't know why it would flagged. You email the guy, go look at it and figure it out.
Here's the text and ad that I downloaded so we'd still have it to talk about:
In 1959, when I was sixteen years old I bought this 1953 Fender Telecaster from a cowboy who came into the service station where I worked. Because of the bad condition of the finish, I took the Tele to B&C Guitars, a local shop in South Pasadena California. I know now what a momentous mistake that was but in those days this guitar was only worth about fifteen dollars. Who knew what old Tele’s were destined to become? They made a one-off custom out of it. B&C made it a double cutaway and put a relief on the back (like a Stratocaster, see the picture) to fit against the players side comfortably, the edges were rounded and finally it was painted a beautiful metallic blue with a white neck. Recently, I stripped off all the old paint from both the neck and body. With-in the last month it has been refinished with the original nitrocellulose lacquer, Fender butterscotch blond on the body and clear on the neck. It was color sanded for a flat finish and then hand polished to a high gloss and it is drop dead gorgeous. The 1953 parts on the Tele are as follows, neck, tuning pegs and screws, truss rod, backing plate and screws, body, strap buttons, bridge assembly with rear pickup and screws, bridge cover (ashtray), controls (switch, knobs, pots, plate etc.) and jack. I took it to a guitar shop where they set the intonation and adjusted the neck with the truss rod.
Thank you for looking at my old Fender.
Wow, that's a sad looking Telecaster. Reminds me of that picture circulating where the guy tried to make two horns on a 57? Les Paul.

If it's really a '53, then it's horrifying that they did that to it...but I kinda like the body shape. It's a Tele with better upper-fret access than a Strat!
Exactly. If it was real, I'd buy it and sell the parts off of it for a nice profit. That is, assuming I was in the market for that sort of thing.Originally Posted by Iowegan

Assuming it's really a '53, are the neck (with its screwed up headstock) and electronics alone really worth five grand? If so, the speculation in the collector's market has really gotten insane.
Scam.

I didn't email the seller, but don't see anything scam about it. For one thing, it's craigs list. In person. no scam.
Harvesting emails? so what?
it looks like a fair price for a butchered tele. negotiate a deal and be done with it.
It's not an ad for a 54 Les Paul for 2500 that is in Ireland.
great way to get a "players" 53 tele? I mean it still works and feels like a 53 tele, but with out the high collectors price. Personally I like the idea of there being collectors rejects out there that are more affordable.
