What percentage of the time do you practice with a metronome or backing track?
Lately At home I practice maybe 70% to backing tracks. Lets me sing and play along to a song. Never to a metronome.
I use these http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/
There is some good stuff there if you look hard enough. Robin Trower "Day of the Eagle" and Jeff Beck "Cause we ended as lovers " are a couple goodies. Don't like the fake Midi generated ones.
I have about 250 tracks on my PC and my I-Pod. Many times I will plug my I-Pod into 1 input of my champ 600 and my guitar in a tube screamer into the other input. Any 2 input amp will do. Good for backyard or front porch jamming. Beer also helps.
I practice with a G-DEC about 33% of the time. I'd use it more often if it had better tone.
I was playing with neither almost exclusively. But the last few weeks I've played with either a drum machine or backing track and I've improved much more quickly.
Quality practice time is a lot better than noodling.
Thanks for the link TB!
I practice about 1/2 the time with Garage Band drum tracks looping. It gives me a 'flavor' but freedom to improvise. If I want some structure I will build it with Garage Band too. Pump it out over the stereo or into headphones with POD for early morning or late night practice.

Backing tracks 40 percent of the time, metronome 60 percent of the time.
0% for me. I feel like I played enough in bands and along with records that I don't need to with either.
That last couple of times I played with a live drummer it felt kinda weird like I didn't know how to keep time with real musicians anymore but it came back after half a song or so. I need to play out more.
When I jam to a backing track,90% of the time the drummer is probably gaffed to a click track------which means I'm tied to a metronome, even if second generation.
