I'm watching The Allman Brothers Live at Beacon Theater and my new CV Tele is sitting just to the right of the TV, next to the '63 VV. We went out, had a few beers, came home, loaded up the DVD player with the ABB and the Heathens. The playing on the Beacon Theather DVD is so inspiring but also so far removed from my own skills.....
The Patron shots sent my girl to bed right after the Heathens DVD was done (she's a huge fan). It's after 4:00am and I'm enjoying the the Allman Brothers DVD. It's hopeless to compare my potential to what I'm watching. Even several (!!!) Crown Royal Reserve shots don't change reality. Derek and Warren are the best two players they could have found for this band -- and I'd kill for just some of the ability I see before me. They honor the original artists and do it on their own terms at the same time.
I have about 30 minutes playing the CV through the '63 VV, my fingers tips are a little sore and the fingers they're attached to no longer do what they did willingly just 20 years ago. They have forgotten most of the basics. I have been forced to start over and have a long way to go just to do some simple blues improv I had fun with many years past. It will come, plus some.....
Mellisa is playing, Greg on acoustic, nice, mellow, beautiful,,,, A bit of jazz now, Warren and Derek and Greg (on keyboards) trading licks.......
With Kathy gone for the night it may be time for some Monte Montgomery (she loves Monte too) or Hellecasters after the ABB DVD finishes....... Warren's voice is a great addition to ABB, not to mention his virtuoso musicianship and sharing the spotlight willingly and seamlessly with Derek........... There's more Crown.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Dreams!!!, God I love this song.........
