I'm really gassing for a blonde, maple neck Telecaster, but the pickings are slim under a grand. What happened to affordable Fenders?

there are 9 on evil-bay as you read this
do I look like I know what I'm doing?
Call the music stores in your area as well and ask if they have any used ones. I'm sure there's some deals out there to be had.

Two words for ya, "buy used."
Or buy CIJ.
Okay, more than two.

Question - would a regular MIA or MIM neck fit on that Squier CV body?
I'm looking for a pine body tele but don't want to spend a ton. If I could get that CV guy and then upgrade the hardware, pickups, and neck with the stuff I've already got hanging around, that would be groovy.
s'all goof.
Curtis, about the only thing you need to upgrade on the CV Tele would be the string nut, selector switch, and tone cap in the wiring. Maybe removing the shielding wiring, too. The rest is THAT good.
The neck is one of the best parts of this guitar! Honestly, the parts you have around wouldn't be needed, unless you want a rosewood neck or something different that what the guitar comes with.
This is NOT a typical Squier guitar.

Thanks, TJ. But indulge me - would the MIM or MIA neck fit?
I figure I might get one and then have a contest to see which neck I like better.
s'all goof.

i havent played one, but i bet with the good feedback they've gotten, the CV Squire is a good deal. i bought my drummer a used blonde MIM classic '50s ash Tele for $400 but had to change the PUs (another $40) to alnico 3 because the stock A5s were way 'tinny' in that guitar. . so for $450 we had a CV squire, what a deal! LOL
but IF you can find one for $500 - buy a Baja
Good point. I wouldn't want to do that. I mean, once that interchangable, assembly-line neck hits that interchangable, assembly-line body - THAT is when the mojo fusion happens.
s'all goof.
Me too, make that 4.
The only upgrade I've made is a 5 hole torty guard. If'n I remember it is a WD, lined right up.
Everything else is as stock and I'm coping just fine, thank you very much.
In fact the Tele was so good I purchased a CV 50s Strat too. It's next to my Champ cooling off as I type...
I'm liking that pine body. Too bad I just bought an Ash Tele
I really want a blonde Baja, but I can't find one. I hadn't really considered a Squire...I'd prefer to stick with a Fender, but maybe I'll check one out due to the response here.
Unless you can find a good enough deal on a MIM classic '50s, which have an ash body and come in blonde (but the stock PUs suck IMO).
Here's a Baja on Ebay for $650 w/ free shipping.

I'm still waitin' for mine... Fender rep was in the store I shop just last week and said that it should be about another week or so before I get the CV Tele I ordered! They are in very short supply from what I was told. I believe that once they discontinue the production on these that they'll be a rather collectable guitar... not that they aren't already! I can't wait to get my hands on mine!!!
Here's my Squier Vintage Modified. Love it!
The cedar body is a bit on the heavier side, but not at all uncomfortable with the fat straps I am known to use. The neck is awesomely comfy, and I do agree with the upgrading the nut. This one came with the slots entirely too high, so I had to get the nut files out and go to town. The tone cap is the next thing to get an upgrade. It'll probably get changed to a .022 mfd. This one has the locking tuners which are awesome as well.
I'll bet the mini > Strat > Tele PU scheme is killer. What kind of switching scheme you got in there? I'd be tempted to do some non std stuff like all three on at one time and/or a no-load pot (for the mini).
Oh, the control scheme is original for now. The neck p/u needs no tone mods. As I said, I need to change the tone cap. It's a 5-way switch and the mod I would make would be a neck on switch so I could do an all 3 or neck/bridge.

Interesting - what kind of mini is that? And what value pots are you using? Every Tele we've ever made with a mini in the neck needed a no load for that position when we used std Tele 250k pots for the bridge PU.
ps - i also like the low value tone cap for ltd high end roll off, but you do lose the wah-wah effect when you do that.
That's the thing, I don't use a tone for a wah-wah effect. I use it to control my ice pick. :)
This thing has all hum-canceling pickups, so it's using 2-500K pickups. The pickups are all Duncan Designed, and they sound great, so I intend on leaving them. Pickup height adjustment does a ton for lightening the tone of the neck HB, as does picking position.
Ah, cool beans.
Yeah, I use mine for the same exact thing.
