Need a bit o' help here...

Hi there guys...so I decided this morning that I've gone far too long without owning a Tele. I've got a Strat, a Les Paul, and I need to balance out this duo with something I can feel right playing chicken picking on.

So that being said I'm obviously in the market for a Tele. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to this foreign beast but I'm here to learn eh? So considering I'll be playing Brad Paisley, Danny Gatton, Steve Trovato kind of things what would you recommend?

See if you can find a used or NOS Fender 'Baja' Tele. One of our singers has one. They seem to be universally loved. IMO slightly hotter/warmer PUs in a Tele are a good thing... :-)

Oh yeah, there are music stores all over the place. I'm going to avoid GC except if I want to go down to play one, I know a couple places where they'll cut you a deal on GC prices.

The Baja is good if you can find one. The AV52 is good for that type of music too. I got the AV52 Thin Skin from Dave's and could not be happier. I pretty much like 'm all though.

    Squier Classic Vibe 50s Tele!

Not a high dollar axe, but it is OH so nice. The only Teles I played that were as good, maybe better were the Baja Tele, '52 RI, and American Deluxe. Everything else just didn't have it.

+1 on the Baja. They have jacked up the prices here and in the US as far as I know for the simple reason - it is the best deal in a versatile Telecaster and the quality/woods and electronics (Custom Shop Designes) are the best bang for the buck.

I also played a Classic Vibe mentioned before but I just like the Baja better personally......

The Baja's are among the nicest out there, I agree. But having the same quality for less than $300? No brainer for me.

Yeah, you need to upgrade the string nut and maybe the selector switch, but everything else there is top notch.

Again, if the budget allows, the Bajas are killer. I've liked every one I've tried.

Is there an option to get the Baja with a rosewood fretboard?

If you can aford the $2,100 asking price mark has 3 1963 teles with rosewood fingerboard and a nocaster for about the same price.

Hes a nice guy too, why dont you email him and tell him the sound you want and he can tell you which of the guitars he has fit best into that.

    they're reissues. custom shop ones.

and I know that college feeling! dont worry, college is easy as hell as long as you keep away from the booze and drugs and you take a reasonable schedule (18+ credit hours can make it difficult), so Im sure youll do fine.

if thats the case, the baja is 800 new, so if you are really going into save money mode, you should check out the classic vibe or hit up your used market.

Our singer bought a Baja NEW for $499. Ought to be able to find a used one for less than that.

Haha shows how much I know 'bout Teles (or Fender in general!), but that's why Im here eh?

I've got a couple months of saving left, and the Tele will be a final big gift to me, so I wouldn't mind paying $800 for a new Baja...but $500?? What a deal! Ill have to head to a few shops to test drive a Baja...

    +1

I went looking for a new tele, blonde with maple neck – probably a Baja.

Came back with a used Black Bound Custom with Rosewood neck MIJ – best guitar I own.

Yeah, there was a GC blowout on them in Jan 2008. I picked mine up then.

Current street price for a new one is around a grand.
