    1st recording with my Zoom H4....AMAZING !

A friend of mine asked me to come to his House and Jam tonite. He's trying to start a band and he assmble the 4 of us for a Jam. I recorded the nite on my new X-Mas present ..Zoom H4. I had my doubts on where I placed it in the room but figured whatever, Turned the thing on. Set it for 16 bit 44.1, used the low gain setting and hit record. The thing was powered by battery's. I have to say that I'm amazed at the quality of this thing. Now realize that this was just a sloppy jam with lots of screws and I'm just testing this thing out.

    Take a listen http://home.roadrunner.com/~theoutpa...%201-04-09.mp3

BTW quess what guitar amp I'm using ?

I'm using my 78 Strat with maple neck and the pickup is a Dimarzio VV Solo Pro in the Bridge if that helps ?

sounds like fun... the amp I am not sure, but the baffle plate is a tad thick, you might reduce it 1/16th to get the proper tone :)

all kidding aside - our local neighborhood band uses the Zoom 4 as well - amazing rascal for sure.

Totally Bored Great stuff! I enjoyed listening. I've been interested in the H4. BTW I re-mastered your MP3 with a few few freeware VSTs in Magix Music Studio just to see how good I could get the H4 output to sound. Sounded great - If you are interested I can post a link here or send you an email.

Re: 1st recording with my Zoom H4....AMAZING !

So I was to lazy to bring one of my Vintage Tube amps all tweek'd out for superior tone and I used the guys Line 6 amp that he bought used for $75 and what a piece of junk it is IMO.. The preset that I used was a clean like setting that sounded sterile and lifeless. I plugged my guitar into my pedal board and I used my Fulltone Distortion Pro set for kinda heavy-ish gain. For solo's I would hit my Boss Super Overdrive that was before the Distortion Pro. The 2 of them together gives a super sustain sound.

Anyway, my point is that the Line 6 don't sound all that bad "In the mix" even though it sounded like crap by itself. Makes re-think this whole searching for Tone thing. Screw it all, turn it up and Rock out !

Thanks TB I'm pleased you liked this mix - your band reminds me a bit of early Zep especially the guitar tone. Anyhow a picture is worth a thousand words so here is a screenshot of the tweaks. You need the free VST plugins from www.voxengo.com and www.betabugsaudio.com

the order is Voxengo GEQ...to Simple squeeze (compressor) to Wide Bug stereo enhancer.

    Sounds great...I've got the little brother..the H2.

    Big bang for the buck.
I have decided to be happy because it's good for my health.

    New recording. Manic Depression
    http://home.roadrunner.com/~theoutpa...%201-05-09.mp3

Get into it Man ! DIG

This is not the other Band.

This is my NEW BAND. 1st rehearsal ever. I sing and play guitar of course and it's real sloppy @ times but you get the Idea. Holy Crap the drummer smokes don't ya think ?

The Drummer Smokes and Bass Player is solid too. I'm real excited about playing with these guys. I think I may be the weak link here as I'm reallly really rusty and my vocals just kinda blow. May take a few months get me back in shape on being "The Guy" . Last Power Trio I had was 3 years ago.

FWIW I was using a 68 Princeton Reverb with Celestion G12h 30 watt speaker. Fulltone Distortion Pro and for solo's I step on my Boss Superoverdrive with the the Dist Pro to get that Nasty feedback at a low Volume. Using a 78 strat middle pickup with a Area 61.

Should have turned the Guitar up a bit for this recording but....trial and error I quess ?

    Don't understand the question ?

I set the the H4 to 16 bit 44.1 . I used the low gain setting and I used the internal Limiter so I wouldn't Digitally peak out. I upgraded the 512mb SD sound card to a 8 gig SD sound for $20. A 3 hour recording at 44.1 @ 16 bit came out to be about 1.25 gig of data. I also used the batterys on the thing and didn't hook it up to AC.

To sum it up, I just hit record on the thing when I got to rehearsal.

    sorry for the confusion....

How far from the players? mostly - the drums.....

did you use any onboard compressors, etc?

I have been using my H2 in the same manner......about 12-15 feet in front of the band/Mains.....drum compressor on to eliminate hard clipping and in MP3 mode.

    Again - just curious......
    good sound

Had it right up front about 3 feet away from the band perimeter.
