    Tele bridge identification

Hey guys! I just picked up the correct bridge for my '74 Tele and I got it for a pretty good price. Now I just need to find the correct saddles. That's all good news, but what's got me perplexed is the fact that I can't I.D. the bridge that's on there. It's got the writing on the same angle as the pick-up hole.

    Here's what's stamped on it:

    FENDER
PAT PEND (this letters on this line are about 1/2 the size of the others)
    A013166

Any help from you guys would be appreciated.

    Later,

This one isn't very good. I think I'll have to take off the strings.

That's a cool bridge, but not right for a 74. It should have six saddles.

I put one of these on my 73 tele. as I prefer three saddle bridges.

Those saddle screws look ouchy. You may want to shim the neck too.

    Re: Tele bridge identification

The bridge that's pictured is the one that's coming off. I've got a real one for a '74 coming that is a 3 saddle as well. From what I understand, 63-74 use the same bridge. The saddles changed from threaded to slotted in '67. The correct saddles are what I'm looking for next. On the correct bridge, the name and patent info run parallel to the back edge of the bridge, they're not angled and parallel to the pickup hole. I'm just trying to figure out where this bridge came from and if it's worth any money. It looks old as hell.

    Re: Tele bridge identification

Ok, I shot a few pics with my video camera. It takes much better close-ups, but uploading the pics is a pain in the rear! I'm thinking the number under the "Pat. Pend" line might be a serial number. Do you guys know of any Teles that came serialized on the bridge? Check these out and let me know if you guys have any idea of where this bridge came from...

That's the traditional location for tele serial numbers, but I'm not sure if they actually mean anything anymore.

From when to when? From '68 or so to '76 or so they were on the neck plate and then on the headstock ever since, right?

I was gonna say - not from the ser no - but from the look o' that pup - it looks an early 50's - my '57 Esquire had staggered poles...

    Re: Tele bridge identification

Yankee Rob, the pickup is straight out of my Baja...I put the complete Baja electronics package in my '74. It's still got the S1 switch, but I'm going to rewire it with a push-pull pot so I can use the original '74 volume knob.

Wilko, Nothing wrong with it at all. I just wanted to know what it was before I did anything with it. I picked up an original bridge for the guitar and tucked it away for safe keeping. The bridge in the picture (since it was a Japanese re-ish), was modified to accomodate a Timara B & G string bender that is currently on the guitar. What a package that thing is now!!!
