I still use my old yellow Boss OD-2 Turbo Overdrive, purchased used circa 1979.

Also sometimes use MI Audio Crunch Box. Little too much drive for what you want but you should check out his other effects pedals. Crunch Box was $109 new, built in New South Wales, Australia.

+1 for what juniorspecial said......try playing clean using the natural tube saturation of the amp.

The FD2 MOSFET with the Flat Mids option can sound like the original Marshall Bluesbreaker. I like it WAY better than the normal FD2 sound and you still get the two levels of boost thing. Post some clips when you find what you are looking for.

Any of you TS9 owners mind looking in your manual to tell me what the power consumption is. 40 mA? 50 mA? I'm trying to figure out if I need a bigger power supply for my pedal board. It's getting to the max. The Ibanez support page if off line. Thanks!

I run a Tonebone Classic with my DRRI and it is a great adjustable pedal.

I have several Build Your Own Clone builds. You should at least look at what they offer. Top quality components with mild modifications to classic stomp boxes to make the better. They have a tube screamer clone, for instance, that comes with lots of parts to mod it. So you pick they way you want it to sound. They also have a big muff clone with much better tone controls. My favorite at the moment is my gray spec DOD 250 clone. At low volume it sounds dead on just like my 5e3 when overdriven. I go to the shop now and don't even consider buying a pedal. For the price you pay you could build 2 better BYOC pedals.

i built a couple of their fuzzes, nice kits. i have a 250 also and think that's pretty cool, i have the analogman modded one.

i'm still looking around, it's been bass work lately so this is now on the back burner, i'll check out that kit though cause i sort of glanced over their page the other day but didn't really read too much about it. thanks for the input.

update:

i was reading on analogman dot com and came across the maxon sd9, i totally forgot about those. not a ts, but in that camp. so i ordered one and it should be here this up coming week sometime.

and, i've got another pedal coming in 12-14 weeks, the one with the weird horsie dude on it. i've always wanted one. i guess i'll see if the hype is true or not.

Another good choice: Blackstone MOSFET OD. Kicks the crap outta those little green boxes....IMO, anyway.

Yeah, it's hard to like the TS9 and TS808 after playing or listening to the better non mid hump boxes.

I am really impressed with the Radial Tonebone Classic. It can conjure up some mighty fine tones. Eric Johnson is impressed too. I use one and that Dumble tone comes tumbling out of my DRRI.

That's a good one. I use the Hot British, and ya if you are tired of Screamers the Tonebones aren't Screamers...but they do scream.

The British is much different than the Classic model. The classic is more of an overdrive and is much cleaner than the British, BTW I only use it when I need that extra girth in my sound, 90% of the time I am just using the stock DRRI. For now I am using a Catalinbread Hyperpak for low gain dirt and a Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster to give my amp a little push

it's funny, i put mine away for awhile, and when i came back to it i liked the sound again. i guess i needed a rest.

but for now i'm sticking with the sd9 and klon. a little flatter on the mids. plus the sd9 is a little "angrier" sounding.

i'd love to play some of those love pedals, they look interesting to me.

The Catalinbread DLS is a great little pedal. The newer ones have an internal switch that raises the gain for both the 'rock' and 'RAWK' modes. Works well when stacked with other pedals, too.

My main OD into a Fender amp clean is the Hughes+Kettner tube factor. Great ballsy OD with 2 channels. I also use an Analogman modded TS9 which I still do use occasionally. I have 2 fuzzes, an Analogman Sunface after my home modded standard Crybaby. Both Germanium .The other fuzz is at the very end of my pedal chain, a Wilson 4 knob fuzz. This system has worked great for me and I can pretty much cover every OD/fuzz sound I'll ever need...
So to summarise, if I had to pick one OD, it'd be the Tube Factor, one fuzz, the Wilson 4 knob fuzz.

I still like my modded Rat clone but I haven't used an OD pedal for a long time (since I sold my Princeton Reverb). I prefer the natural OD of my Deluxe clone, the cascading gain of my Mesa/Boogie and my '69 pedal (the only dirt pedal on my board).

I sold my OCD a while back and keep the Rat clone and a Tube Screamer clone in case I have to use someone else's amp (I let the guy I jam with borrow them).

I have a Tonebender MKII clone, a Fuzz Factory and a Radio Shack parts fuzz because of my obsession with fuzz.

I have a Tech 21 Double Drive.
I've had it for a few years. I had become kind of eh about it when I still had my Peavey Delta Blues, and was going to get rid of it.
But with the Prince G amp, I REALLY dig it. So I sold my other OD pedals instead.

It's damn versatile, and can make really over the top sounds I'm not likely to ever use. But I can also zero in on an settings that filthy up the essential sound of the Prince just right, whether with my Strat, Tele or Casino.

It's a discontinued model. But they now make a Double Drive 3X, that allows you to program and store 3 settings, accessible with seperate footswitches, for easy stage use.
This guy does pretty decent job of demoing the range of the pedal on the fly.
