Whats up with your bailout?

"Whats up with your bailout?"
I really don't know. I'm beginning to think that we have created (the whole modern economy) something we are neither smart enough nor honest enough to manage. We got in over our collective heads. And I feel it started a while back. It is beginning to look like the $700b will pretty much vanish without ever having any impact.
It will be interesting to see what it looks like on the other side of this.
I agree with your assessment Fedora. BTW Our dollar dropped from 90 something cents US to 65 cents in the space of a few weeks. I have been witnessing some fallout here in Australia on a personal level -I am a family doctor .. and have had a patient only a few days ago come in with depression as he had lost half his savings due to stockmarket investment losses. Another said he had lost half due to the economic crisis and now has to go on Govt pension. That's two in only a couple of weeks. We live in interesting times. Not just a USA problem. Everything is interconnected now. I think this is a global problem of greed chickens coming home to roost.

it is global and all on paper... please someone get the eraser and pencil working in the right direction soon, and hopes that the press will quit feasting on negativity and offer a few encouragements to let the cloud of "recession / depression" disperse to allow a bit of sunshine!
I've seen this topic on a lot of boards, and I see a lot of opinions leaning towards blaming:
"People who couldn't afford houses bought them & now we're all in trouble."
No economic situation is that simple, sorry. My mother lost her house last year...after 27 years. My step-dad died, things went wrong, she had to go back to work after retiring from her state job for like two weeks.
My brother lost his house last year, as well. He goy laid off, couldn't find work. His girlfriend of 11 years left him, unemployment ran out.
It's a multi-pronged issue: job loss in this country over the last few years (it isn't a new issue, it just hit astronomical proportions in 2008 and is being reported on), mortgage bundling (a big bank may have written your mortgage, but sold it to Bob's Bait Tackle & Loan), as well as looser rules re: lending & a lack of regulation.
It ain't just the government, it ain't just the homeowners, it ain't just outsourcing.
It's an all of the above equation.
Time wounds all heels.
Time wounds all heels.
The more I learn, the more I begin to understand the mortgage crisis is a red herring. Let's face it, $700B would pay off everyone's mortgage and have a lot left.
I more and more think that it was an election year ruse to delay the truth that we've shipped so much of our real value-adding work (which is were real wealth is generated) offshore that we can't sustain the economy.
The real property boom was the last place to manufacture things - it's hard to import housing - and now that source of income is gone.
"No harmonic knowledge, no sense of time, a ghastly tone, unskilled vibrato, and so on. Chuck is one of the worst guitar players I know" -Gravity Jim
allot of truth to that OA...one advantage to high fuel was that American Industry was starting to make strong considerations for cranking up steel, and manufacturing as the shipping and low quality Chinese stuff was beginning to be to expensive... we are such energy whores... as a builder we are in quite a fear and loathing period, but as we go so the rest of the economy so really most of us are in the same boat (no pun intended OA :)
Nevah had that happen before!

I have to bump this thread into another page.
I'm tired of looking at my "P/E" post.
Oh, chit.
40 posts per page?
Furggetabout that last post, then.
Help me here, folks.

Thanks for the tip, Gibsonjunkie!
The price of posts has deflated, like GAS.
This multiple posting bit has become too silly!
