    The wrath of Mother Nature

Bolivar peninsula about 30 miles south of us.

Whoever engineered and constructed that house should ad this pic to his marketing program.

Are we sure that house was not up in the next county before this picture was taken?

Yeah - for all we know, it was, briefly, a houseboat!

So why isn't there any mud or anthing on the house? Surely part of the house was submerged at some point.

I think that it's one of the deals where this was all storm surge coming in from the Gulf, and settling inland, running off to sea more gradually and in a different path.

Kind of like blowing the head off your beer and it runs down the side of the glass.

The same house from a slightly different angle was in the NY Times.

It'd be interesting to see a before shot.

I don't think so in this case...

Here's a big phtot of the same area from above, the house in question is in the lower left and there's a before shot.

Giant storms often leave really weird things in their wakes. Growing up in Tornado Alley, I saw lots of photos of neighborhoods leveled by twisters, with one or two houses sitting virtually unscathed right in the middle of it all.

the shore line in that pic is or WAS another 50 or so yards out in the water.... or should I say.... it has been reclaimed by the Gulf.

Re: The wrath of Mother Nature

they interviewed the owners of that house in Gilcrest show in the pics above. They said they made strict guidelines for the building contractor. They built it after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and made the contractor use materials that withstand the wrath of any and all Cat 4/5's. All the other home wiped clean off the map were only built to CAT 2 standards.

They also said to tonight that there is going to be a NO REBUILD order put in place for all washed away areas you are also seeing in these pics. So if you once had beach front property.... you won't have it again in this area.
