Old AKAI MG1214 deck lying around?

I recently unearthed 2 12-track audiocassettes from AKAI professional, with material I'd like to get off them and into the digital world...these cassettes are proprietary to AKAI and look a bit like small VHS cassettes - though NOT the Super-8 size.

So, the only way to get the audio off these and onto CD is to remix the project using a deck, or to send them off to a professional transfer facility that has one...

    So...

We need an AKAI Professional MG1214. Anyone got one lying around from when they went digital?

Those things are hard to find. Elliot Easton recorded his "Tiki Gods" album on one. When we went to transfer it to PT, the transports jammed and we almost lost the tape. Luckily, Skunk Baxter loves these things and had about five working decks. We were able to get the stuff off thanks to Jeff. Maybe you could contact the Skunk. You never know, he might help...

The very thought of contacting Skunk Baxter scares the hell out of me...I know that you move in the rarefied air, Chris...but I dwell in the land of mere mortals.

I did find someone offering a transfer service - at $60 a pop for a full tape. That might be a good idea; then we could take the individual tracks and reassemble them in any audioediting program...

Awww. Jeff's an OK guy. He'll bug you to death about how he "works" with the NSA, but other than that, he's a great guy."laughing:

    Thanks, Rick. I emailed him.

I'm pretty busy, but if it's too much hassle for him to pack or whatever, I may be able to help.

Rick, he says he doesn't want to pack or ship them himself. He suggested that I have a company come to pick them up. I didn't know that there were companies that would do this...

Sharli, the email light is on...I got your email, thanks - replied. You are new on the forum so you should know that they frown on selling gear in general threads here - but emailing is the way to go...so I'll wait for the information...
