Freddie King
I just spent an hour listening to most of his hits. He had incredible timing. He sang and played very well and with tremendous expression, but his sense of time was extrordinary.

...and critical to the development of lead rock guitar as we know it.
When I started playing 30 years ago my entire focus was on early Clapton. Later, I was heavily influenced by Jimmie Vaughan.
I eventually realize that it was Freddie King who I was really influenced by, through those two guitarists, and finally through his own playing!
I much prefer when he sings over his instrumentals.

Ditto - one of the most copied blues riffers ever...

Re: Freddie King
I just listened to his version of 'Remington Ride' for the first time in a while and it's amazing how he keeps the momentum going in that tune...he also had big ears and imagination if he was picking Western swing instrumentals to cover.

Re: Freddie King
Another guy who was a huge influence on Clapton (and thus all of us, lol) was Otis Rush. Do give him a listen.
