New Tele - 62RI Bound CIJ

The big day arrived and I finally got my Tele

I couldn’t get decent pictures with a flash

It’s a 3 year old Japanese 62 Reissue bound Tele. A few marks here and there - I’ve already added another – bit I don’t mind, this won’t be kept in its case and will get well used

I’d been looking around for a while for a blonde maple neck Mexican Tele when this one come up instead at the local store belonging to the owner himself. A cash in hand transaction with the guy who was almost in tears handing it over – he was also selling a gorgeous Strat in form green – drat.

I also looked at an American Tele that appeared to be made by Ikea, a Korean one with a Palo Escrito top that looked like a coffee table and a few Mexican one’s which all looked a bit anaemic. Played them all anyhow and this one was just in a different league.

I don't think teh pickups are Tex Mex as they've only 2 wires each, black and white neck, yellow and black bridge. They're good enough for me though

A quick clean, set up and new strings and she plays like a dream – even my son loves it and prefers it to my Les Paul. I just love the simplicity of it and the 60's vibe

    Congrats!!!!!

Great looking Tele and the MIJ/CIJ '62RI's are terrific.

I purchased a maple neck and swap it in & out with the RW.

(sorry for the color difference, but these were taken with different cameras)

Awesome! I bought a double bound '62 AVRI and love it. I wasn't sure about the color until I got it but I love it, it certainly has a presense.

Congrats on your purchase and enjoy!

I probably post this pic too much but I'll pimp it again.

See -- that's what I thought -- then that guy busts out that '55 this past weekend (see other thread), and I dunno.

Congrats melody and Billy -- those are just fantastic. I'm with PC -- the binding just.. where's that drool smiley?

    Hi Guys

Thanks for the kind words. I’m really loving this guitar, it just begs to be played and played. My 15year old son - who’s got more natural ability than I have – just drools over this guitar but doesn’t rate my 71 Les Paul custom at all - I kind of agree with him. Its also leagues above my MIM 60s Strat for feel and quality.

I completely agree. Black was the last colour I was looking for – but when I saw it – WOW. Are those the original saddles? If not, is it worth changing.

Just a smidgen – fortunately its where I look down at the neck.

Like the sunburst – very Andy Summers. One of my fave guitarists

They are not, they were changed to brass by the guy I bought it from. I have no experience with the stock setup so I really can't answer the question, however it seems like people like brass saddles on a Tele.

He also wired it modern as the dark circuit that's stock is pretty useless in my opinion.

Of all places -- Ebay. The only time I have bought any stringed instrument on the 'bay, and it ends up being the best playing electric I've owned. Glad that one worked out.

If anybody does know definitively the status of the Ishibashi folks, whether you can or cannot get them directly, I'd like to know.

Also -- Csapo, those are beautiful. Cooltone -- yeah. Just yeah..

Howabout Canada? They'll ship to Canada, right? I'm pretty close to the border. The exchange rate sucks right now, but things can change~

Thanks all for the nice words.

I got this OLP, a Ritchie Kotzen Sig Tele and a Rosewood RI (since have sold it) from Ishibashi. My other MIJ/CIJ's came from Ebay. Ishibashi was a pleasure to deal with. Wish they were still shipping new CIJ's to the States.

My MIJ/CIJ's (6 of these have been sold)

Yup, my experience, too. I dealt w/Hiroaki & he was FAST w/the communication. At first he came off a little abrupt, but then I realized he probably gets a ton of emails & phone calls from lookie-loos. That stuff moves fast so he was like, "Tell me what you want, & tell me fast; it could be gone by the time this reaches you!"

They had stopped shipping new ones. I read that Fender USA came down on them.

I just took a spin around the U-Box. Plenty of Strats & Teles. Stats are pretty cheap, some as low as $350. Teles are going for a bit more. Lots of USA gear on there, too.

Not my cup of tea, but still, that's a damn nice Tele. If they made one with a maple neck, I'd definitely think very hard about it.
