    Re: Duo-Sonic

My only complaint is, that, with Gibson selling US made Melody Makers for $350, you'd think that Fender could make the Duo-Sonic in Mexico, with the Fender name on it, and sell it for under $300, even with shiny paint.

This Duo-Sonic sells for $240. I have a hard time paying more for this guitar than my '66 Fender Mustang cost me ($175 about 20 years ago)!

Don, that is a nice one, but I hear you on the price point.

Apologies to don for hijacking, but Chucko, were you the one that put a P-90 in one of those melody makers and then sold it off?

    Re: Duo-Sonic

Hi folks! This is my first post. Glad to be here!

As for the Duo-Sonic, I have one coming to me from MF. MF bothers me. I have had a bad run of lousy quality merchandise from them in the last 6 months. I hope this buy breaks that trend.

I have owned a Squier Vintage Modified Thinline Tele for a little less than a year and think it is a well built guitar for $279. The neck is very good. Like it or not there are well made guitars coming from China. I expect the Duo-Sonic to be as good. I don't know what to expect as far as sound is concerned. I guess I can expect it to not be a telecaster or a stratocaster!

Seriously though, I'll be back with a follow up and hopefully some pictures.

    Again, happy to be here!

BTW, the smilies here are awesome!!

I've seen plenty of good products come from China, especially when they're not super inexpensive.
I just prefer stuff to be made closer to home whenever possible.

I'd be really psyched it if had a big neck, but I'm guessing it's not gonna happen that way.

    Hi Kap'n!

Yeah. With a 24" scale and 41mm at the nut it could feel small. Hard to know until you actually have it in your hands though.

I hope it feels like my MIM Squier Series Stratocaster. Not fat but not too thin either.

Thanks Don. I hope it gets here Friday.

I would like for things to be made closer to home too. Nobody asked my advice before all our manufacturing was move overseas. Not that they would have listened.

I'll be back after the D-S gets here.

You can not place all of the blame on CEOs and CFOs for manufacturing leaving the US.

You can place a lot of the blame on people wanting ten dollar toasters, $500 computers and $1,000 flat panel TeeVees.

Just like global warming, no one person is to blame. Everyone is to blame.

But pointing fingers is so much easier.

They did ask me (not Fender, of course)! In fact, they do ask me regularly.
    They don't listen!

Yep. We're all consumers who want low prices and stock holders who want big returns!

It is a cool guitar, though!

They made a similar model in Mexico with the Fender name in the '90s, right? It sold for just over $100, I believe, but didn't have the '50s style aluminum pickguard and desert sand finish.

It looks like it even has Kluson style tuners with white plastic buttons.

    Back to the Duo-Sonic.

    It does ooze Kool!

I'm hoping that the tuners work as good as they look. The ones on my VM Thinline are smooth and get the job done just fine. Hope the Squier folks keep up the good work. They have found an eager market for these higher priced guitars. They just need to keep using decent components.

I just got a shipping confirmation from MF. It won't be here until next week. Oh well. Aw Man! I'll be out of town Tuesday and I have a feeling it is going to be delivered then. They won't leave it if I'm not here. Can I call UPS and get delivery to another address? My neighbor is home all day. He plays a little guitar. He'll be happy to take it in!
