I've got one and its absolutely fantastic. I ordered one with the silver wire option. I used it through my Fender Bandmaster which made that 2 X 12 sound twice its size. By changing tubes I could get vintage gritty breakup to modern full on distortion.

One thing about the Tubester I discovered while recording. It seems to breathe. Letting a chord ring out kinda sounds slightly like there may be a small phase on it but it's just a very high quality pedal. The interior is immaculate.

I've had it for a few years but i'm thinking of selling it. I bought a Hiwatt recently which takes care of the need for a large overdriven amp. It certainly makes smaller amps turn into Mr. Hyde. I'd take it over a Pod anyday. I had a Mullard pre amp in it ;)

I think what your hearing is compression, common to tube amps.
I have an A.R.T. Tube MP that runs on a 12AX7 and I hear the same thing your describing. It's a pumping sound.
I just back down on the drive till it goes away.
