Best distortion pedal for grunge/alternative songs

I am looking for a good distortion pedal that is good for heavier alternative/grunge type songs, without breaking the wallet too badly. I have an Ibanez Tube Screamer, but it doesn't really fit the bill for this kind of music.
I was looking at the Boss DS-1, with the Analogman mod (for a warmer sound). Is this a good bet?
    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

Try www.miaudio.com .These are hand made and at a very reasonable price. It has to be the best pedal I've ever heard.I met the designer and he said any options or preferences you'd like in a pedal,he can custom build. As he's in Australia the dollar makes them very good value

    Watto

My collection of Ts-9's 808's hot cakes etc are all in the cupboard now. This pedal is awesome
Reynolds Valve-art ,The best amps ever made.

I use a Boss MT-2 - thats pretty damn good pedal. Lot's of variation in sound. It's more expensive than alot of the 'normal' pedals, but it does alot more. I find it can do typical nirvana grunge sounds and slide off to the more death metal side of thnigs, but if you lower the gain you can get nice Zepplin style vintage tones and dirty blues stuff.

    GRUNGE PEDAL

I GOT A OLD THE FIRST TYPES OF SANS AMP EMULATOR PEDALS
SANSAMP PEDALS ARE UNIQUE BECAUSE THEYRE EASY TO USE BY FLIPPIN LITTLE DIP SWITCHES YOU CAN OBTAIN MAJOR TYPES OF GRUNGE AMP SOUNDS
THESE PEDALS OR GIZMOS WERE ALSO DIRECT BOXES AND GOOD FOR RECORDING BASS
I USE MINE OCCASIONALLY HIDDEN IN MY BASSMAN TO GIVE MY AMP BALLS
KURT COBAINE ALSO USED ONE IN HIS GUITAR RIG FOR HIS HELLACIOUS DISTORTED TONE
GEDDY LEE OF RUSH USES ONE PLUGGED DIRECT INTO THE MIX BOARD FOR HIS BASS
THESE OLDER PEDALS WHICH HONESTLY THEYRE VERY UN POPULAR I THINK WERE VERY SUPER AT EMULATING MAJOR AMP TONES FROM MOST POPULAR AMPS OF THE DAY
I HAVENT TRIED THE NEW SANSAMP PEDALS BUT I LOVE MY OLD ONE I BOUGHT IN 1990 NEW
I PAID A GOOD PRICE FOR THIS VERY VALUBALE PIECE OF BACKUP GEAR
MAYBE YOU CAN FIND A USED ONE IN A MUSIC STORE
    TRY ONE OUT
