    Good Amp to power Monitors?

Ive got an amateur recording station happening, and Im going to be using a pair of old EV Studio monitors.
I'd like to get some suggestions as to a good amp , with price an important coonsideration.
I'd like a newer model, but something I can still find on the used market.
Ideally, the profile would be thin as possible without sacrificing sound quality.
Right now theres a nice looking crown amp for 250.00 on Craigslist, but its kind of thicker than I would prefer.
Im not sure if the Crowns are PA amps or studio monitor power amps, or if there is a difference? Thanks

I'd go ahead and use the Crown. We use one (the small 202)
for on-stage monitors and it's very clean. A really good amp for not a lot of pesos.

You could also try to find one of the Alesis RA100 amps. They were made for reference monitoring, and can be had for low ducats.

I use an old NAD home stereo amp.

Most home stereo amps are fine. Google for specs and find good flat amps with relatively high power. they'll be much less expensive than so-called pro audio or recording studio amps.

Another bonus is that many are integrated and have several input options as well as switchable speaker banks so you could power a couple sets of monitors, you even get a headphone out!

I just got another (a 3155 in addition to the old 3020).

    Now I have two NADs.

Mine's a 7240PE. It's subbing for a Pioneer SA-5200. One of the finals died, and I haven't fixed it yet. So I've got one NAD.

As mentioned in another thread, I use an old Sansui AU-555A.

I guess I just don't have any NADs.
