    Upgrade Cap In 66 Strat?

    Hi all...

I just got my 66 Strat back together and only had a Les Paul .022 Vitamin-Q PIO laying around so I stuck it in, and it's cool etc, though I'm wondering what most folks upgrade their Strat caps to?

These are stock 6K DCR December 66 Strat pups wired stock with 250K pots (excepting a MegaSwitch E for neck and bridge in position 3).

    Thanks...

Just about anything except a ceramic or electrolytic cap works fine. We're probably talking a 3rd or 4th order affect on tone here. Those cheap green chicklet poly caps are what I typically use.

Of course if you are trying to make a newer guitar "authentic" for 1966 then you might want to go with the cheapest ceramic cap you can find. That's what Leo would have used.

I use .022 orange drops because they are shiny and look neat. but I don't use the tone knob so YMMV...

Yeah, I should try the correct spec, plus maybe a .047?

    Thanks...

Yeah, I should have the stock Ceramic around someplace?

Maybe I'll try a .047 next for grins, thanks...

I do, especially on the bridge pup, and I'm liking the .022 so far?

    Ever try a .047?

    Thanks...

Check this ebay store out. Pretty good for authenticity. I've found him to be reliable, have bought two caps.

    Hey curt1lp...

I have the pat pending saddles you turned me on to married to a correct block and plate, so the old 66 is up and running (sounds and plays great, amazing that I let her sit in a box in the closet for the last 17 years LOL!

    Thanks...
