    Cabinet material

The 2 x 12 cabinet I built for my amp last year is solidly built from 13 ply birch. I enjoyed building it and have been thinking about building another one with a few more features. I like the Birch but I was wondering about using Pine. I've seen a few custom made cabs for sale that use pine and was wondering if it would be better than Birch. I don't like cabs that are made from MDF so if Pine would sound similar to that I wouldn't want to go that way. Any help would be great, Thanks.

Depends - I would use ply for the front baffle and pine elsewhere - many like pine for it's lightness - I personally wouldn't bolt a speaker to it but am suitably intrigued to consider building the top, bottom and sides of a replacement cab for my HRDv/5F6A conversion out of pine - the baffle will definitely be ply though...
