    Removable Fretless bass fretboard insert

Years ago, I saw a group in a club and the bass player was using a Precision Bass or something like that. At one point he slipped in a fretless fretboard insert under the strings of his bass and instantly turned his bass into a fretless bass.

I was amazed, having never seen this before, but it worked well. I think I even spoke to him after and looked at it, but I don't remember any details.

Has anyone here ever seen or heard of something like this before?

Who makes those and where can I get one?

    Thanks.

    THE NECK SLIPPER

    YYEA I REMEMBER
THIS DUDE IN NEW JERSEY IN A SMOKETY CLUB DOIN THAT TO HIS FENDER JaZZ BASS HE SLIPPED ON
THIS NECK FINGERBOARD COVER TO COVER OVER THE FRETS BUT HE HAD VERY HIGH ACTION ON HIS BASS AND HE WAS USING A SET OF FLATWOUND FENDER BASS LONGSSCALE STRINGS
    I SEEN THE THING
I CALLED IT THE GLASS SLIPPER
I DONT REMEMBER IT TOO IT WAS A WHILE BACK WHEN I WAS IN COLLEGE
it was a reggae kinda band ska they were unique i enjoyed it
it sounded fretless actually this hard covering of vinyl plastic material was very fretless sounding because it totally covered all the frets on the jazz bass
