    Modded my Peter Gunn guitar

I wanted use this guitar with the act but I really needed a trem for it for stylistic reasons. I remembered I had picked up a Bigsby in one of those "Box 'o stuff" deals so I decided to mount it up. I just barely had enough room to squeeze it on there but 4 screws later and it was ready to go. I was lucky to have enough room to get the posts on the trem to line up withthe bridge pieces. The strings just come off of the Bigsby roller and go through the mounting holes in the bridge plate. Aside frome the hokey looks it's actually a decent sounding guitar with a solid mahogany body and neck.

    Whoa!

I guess it would be too on-the-nose to play "Machine Gun" on it, huh?

Hell, I thought I was being obvious using it for Peter Gunn and our James Bond Medley. I'm working on some Surf Style Hendrix as an answer to his "you'll never hear surf music again" line.

My '91 Tele has that dreaded toploading bridge. I'm thinking about putting a Bigsby on it. How do you like it?

It's pretty good. It stays in tune and feels pretty smooth. I lubed all the friction points with some Big Bend's Nut Sauce and it's nice and stable tuning wise. It has the obvious Bigsby range limitations but it's great for adding the gentle warble I need.

I've got a good 4 1/4 inches behind the bridge to mount it up. That should be enough room, right?

yeah that should be fine. I have a tele with a factory mounted Bigsby and it just fits.

Same guitar but I switched the guard to a white one.

I haven't seen any guide. The important thing is to get the studs where the strings anchor on the Bigsby to line up with the bridge saddles. Otherwise the strings come at the bridge at angle and can lead to tuning problems. The back edge of the Bigsby lines up with the back edge of the guitar body on mine.

Is that an un-modded toploader bridge?

Yeah it is. My Tele has that same toploading bridge. Neat idea. Do the strings fight the tops of the holes where they enter the bridge? Or are they down low enough to not rub?

On the Gun? yeah. It's just a toploader with the strings going through the mounting holes.

They rub but use a little Nut Sauce and there's no sticking that I can notice.

Probably have to settle for one of those "lawyer top" guitars.

Luxurious, flamey maple top guitars that wealthy guys (often lawyers) collect.

It's a term that associates the concept of Lawers/Doctors/Dentists/other terminal degree professionals having large amount of disposable income, and purchasing guitars with 'collectible' qualities. (PRS Dragons, US Santanas, Murphy-aged Historics). Particularly guitars ornamented with heavily flamed tops, Brazillian rosewood, and other bragging rights.

As opposed to 'real' players who are purely motivated by playability and "the tone."
