    '52 Tele Relic/ Nocaster

Got a '52 Relic Tele from Dave's at the Arlington Show last month while on my Nocaster quest.
It is actually a Nocaster with mods ordered by Dave.

The mods are 9.5" radius, 6105 frets, and Tele added to the headstock decal.
The Fender paper work on it says "'52 Relic Tele/ Nocaster".

It is fast becoming my favorite.

    Thanks!
I wouldn't mind having another with the 7.25" radius either,
    (read: plot and plan).
I don't think Fender's can get better than this.

Awesome score! I just picked up that same model from Dave's as well! He was easy to work with on the phone and it should arrive at my house sometime next week! Mine's a bit more relic'd (from the pics at least) than yours. Mine comes in at an even 7.0lbs, tight neck pocket and Laun at the shop, gave it a great review over the phone for me. Here's a pic:

    Congrats to you solsurfr!
    Youre going to love it.
I've bought a lot of guitars over my lifetime and quite a few in just the last six years or so including a bunch of HIstorics but I can say this model has got me more excited than most of them.
I feel like a teenager that just got his first good guitar.

    Mine weighs in at 7.2lbs.
It is more reliced than the pictures shows. The relicing was done just right.

Thanks dude! I'm stoked too and can't wait. I've had a bunch of historics and custom shop stuff from gibson and fender and pretty much try to upgrade/buy just a couple pieces a year, if that. I've been trying to avoid Dave's site for a while and it's been working but that special run he did was simply calling my name. Always wanted a nocaster but wasn't too keen on the 7.25 and small frets. Not that I'm against them as I have those specs on my CS '60 relic brazilian strat and love 'em but wanted something a bit more modern for my tele as it will pretty much be my gigger.

Christmas comes a little early for the both of us!

    Re: '52 Tele Relic/ Nocaster

I may even have played yours at the Arlington Show. Dave had a good selection there and there was one that weighed 7lbs. even.

If it was the one you're getting it was a nice one!

They were so popular at the show that when another forum bud asked me to look at a guitar he was considering I handed mine to the friend I came with to play with strict orders not to put it back on display so it would still be there when I got back.

    I wasn't taking any chances!
I am amazed at how this guitar is the one I always grab first now and always satisfies.

By the way your pic isn't showing up.

Wow.. that's funny that Dave actually took those to Arlington! I would think he would stick to the vintage stuff but that's cool. I bought the tele on Tues. Dave had two that weighed 7.0lbs. Both relic jobs were pretty close in comparison but the neck pocket was slightly tighter on the one that I got and after the tone report from Laun, I was sold. Always wanted a '52 and already owning another custom tele with CS nocasters was an easy sell for me.

The pic is showing for me... hrm.

Dave always brings a huge selection to the Dallas and Arlington Shows.
His display is also always the biggest out of all of the dealers there.

Re the pic, I have copied the pics properties and pasted to another page and still can't get it to come up.
    That usually works.

Never been to Arlington though. I usually hit the Philly show which is much smaller but haven't gone in a couple years. It looks like Dave pulled the pics from his site cuz it's sold. I'll snap some when it gets here. Hoping next Tues or Wed.

NICE SCORE Enjoy it ........I picked one up Just like it from Mark's about a month ago and it is an outstanding guitar.... 6 lbs 13 oz and an acoustic cannon. It truly feels like a guitar that has been played a lot and is broken in ...They Balance Soooo well...you could play it all night and never even feel it on your shoulder...

    Nice Tele00!

I saw that Mark had a few of these, even some with a V neck variation too.

Mine arrived today. Box says not to open for 24hrs because it's been in a "very cold" room. In hindsight, I wish I opted for the 2 or 3 day shipping but Dave did the ground shipping for me included. Oh well, i'll open it tomorrow and check 'er out. Tele's are built like tanks so I expect it to be perfect.

So far, it's simply awesome. Setup was perfect after that long trip from the cold midwest. I played it a for a few minutes through my reissue bassman and the highs were crystal clear and mids pronounced. The bridge position had pretty awesome sustain and single-note bite. It looks and feels like it's been played for 50 years.

Did your's come with the modern wiring kit? Are you going to install it? I couldn't find the kit in my case. I'm not a fan of that vintage blend at the neck position at this point. I'll give it more a chance but it's really muddy.

    Re: '52 Tele Relic/ Nocaster

I knew you would like it!
Mine came with the kit which consists of one cap-a .022.

The switch towards the neck is the Neck pu with a .050 cap
middle position is neck only the towards the bridge position is bridge only with the 'tone' control all the way up and you add (blend) neck pickup with it as you turn the 'tone' (blender control) CCW.
You might know that already but just in case.

The modern wiring takes the blend circuit away and gives you the tone control back.

I like the blend as I use the middle position on my Gibsons quite a bit
to blend the neck and bridge pu's.

    I've been discussing the modern/vintage wiring here;

    http://telecaster.freeforums.org/viewtopic.php?t=33

I want to change mine out but I am loving the blender too much for now.
I miss the tone control too but I can still get a mixed balance between the middle position that are great!

Thanks for the info! I actually didn't know the schematic. I knew that the standard custom shop nocaster had this wiring but I didn't realize this special run from Daves was essentially a nocaster with the modern radius and jumbo frets. I have a Custom Tele which is just an american tele with nocaster pups which I just love and seeing this run from Daves with the nocaster pups, I had to have it because I love those fat necks. I'll play around with the "blender" and see if I can get use to it. I typically max out my tone controls on all my guitars so that was what I was expecting but this is a nice change and if it's vintage accurate, then I'll probably stick with it.

Those guitars are awesome, pretty much what I was going for when I built my USACG T-Style, an early blackguard with a 9.5" radius fretboard and tall 6105 frets.

I just switched mine to the blend circuit with no tone control and like it a lot. We'll see how I feel about it after I try it in the band.

    Sweet solsurfr!

Don, There is also a concentric pot that you can install to get both the tone and blend.
