    Charlie Christian pup

Anyone ever play one of these? I saw a guy playing tonight with a CC pup in the neck position on a Tele... hard to determine what it sounded like because he had his amp set with the treble way down... hardly sounded like a Tele at all.

Just curious. They look cool... John Lennon had one mounted in the neck position of his LP Jr.

How would you characterise the sound? Are they similar to a P90 perhaps?

Take a listen to any Barney Kessell CD..... or any recordings of Charlie Christian himself.

Well, yeah, those would be good examples of what that pickup sounds like in a big hollow guitar through a 1940's amp recorded to wire or very crude tape.

Even though I have no direct experience with one, the musicians I know who have used them in solid body guitars would lead me to think the way that pickup sounds or might be used in a modern context is very different. I mean, that's like being asked "What does a P-90 sound like?" and answering, "Listen to some Wes Montgomery."

The original "Charlie Christian" p'up is quite an elaborate doodad.

It would require at least a swimming pool route to install one, or rear mounting.

I'm not sure what functional difference the absence of the big magnet bars makes in Lollar's CC repro for Teles would make.

The only experience I have with the CC p'up was on a CC Guitar (my teacher's guitar). Nice sounding for jazz, but I dont know how it sound on any other guitar.

One could always buy the latest John Lennon Posthumous Signature Guitar and find out.
    Several guitars in different colors
    Things to make them fuzzy
    Things to make them louder
    orange picks
