    True School of Rock Story

I play bass at a weekly Blues jam - which is usually a lot of fun. The house band is typcially a drummer, two particaulr guitar guys, me and Dave Bromberg when he is in town - not on tour. He was not in last night......

anyway.....last night, we were setting up and the drummer did not come....so we played a warm up shuffle to get going....and it was just ....well.......off with no drummer.

One of the guys said "Bullshit".....lets go find a drummer. So of course...I said...uh.......ok......where.....(I am not real bright sometimes)

we play less than a block away from the Wilmington Operahouse in Wilm Delaware....which in addition to being a venue for perfoming acts, coincidentally houses the "School of Rock". While following the sounds of playing/lessons....we were stopped by security.

I had a flashback from the Blues Brothers......when asked "Can I help you?" I replied....."We are here from the musicians union - Division of rhthym, I need to see the percussion instructor....". We were taken directly to the drum teacher. We told him of our dilema, a no show drummer for the Blues jam about 100 yards away....and he had two guys grab a kit, put it on a cart and in 15 minutes, we resumed our Blues jam session.

My friend had a great Idea to go there, and the instructor thought that this was a true life lesson in playing that the student would benefit from. The Student - maybe 17 had a great time and was seriously stoked when we were done. We need to do soemthing nice for those guys, and in the meantime, invited them to come down to jam, and/or play for us some.....

BTW - The story you have just heard is true....the names have been changed to.......

You did do something nice for them.

Great story. I love it when a kid joins us and has a good time.
